I remember this. I also thought Princess Peach was my girlfriend, too!

@chlov: there is a difference between being socially impaired and being schizoid, right... aspies by nature are socially impaired, but not every one of them is schizoid, even though most may SEEM schizoid because their empathetic capabilities never really come to play in relation to the outside world, because of the social impairment... at least that's what I think of it...

I am diagnosed with a disorder that causes social impairment (Asperger's) and I also have schizoid tendencies.
I've always had schizoid tendencies but they got more evident since the age of 11.
My mother says that at times I seem to have more traits from schizoid PD than from AS.
In fact, some traits I have are not explained all by AS or attention deficit disorder.

I think this is why I can't relate to most people on this forum.
Few people here seem to have schizoid features.

People, people...there is a huge difference between sexual attraction or emotional attachment and LOVE. Real love is impossible to have for something that's not real. But sexual attraction to fictional characters? Sure! Happens to me all the time. I'm not IN LOVE with them, though. That's just...not possible.

My definition of "in love" requires that the person actually exists and has interacted with me in some way outside of my fantasies.

Not to be rude or anything. but I don't see it this way. except however, I can agree to some extent. meaning, I my opinion if it is a character you didn't have any part in their creation, You can't really love them in the way some people try to say they do. for example, I am highly attracted to Lilly from Tekken. because she's so cute and fancy. but I don't feel love for this character. just attraction.

But, when it comes to a character I created all by myself, it's a totally different story. a good example is my imaginary girlfriend Lola, I created her for this purpose at first it may have been subconscious. but I now am only able to connect with Lola as if she was real. in my mind I see her, as one would see a real person. but my love for my creation has, in some ways shifted. I love Lola because I created her, but my love for her is much like that of an over protective parent, who also happens to screw her life up a lot.

So, I guess I won't go on to explain all my other imaginary "characters" although I love them all. but for most of them, it's not a intimate relationship.

Not to be rude or anything, but you don't get to tell me how I define love.

Same for me. If people here say they are in love with fictional characters who is to say they really aren't?

I wasn't telling you how YOU define anything.
I was telling you my OPINION. there's no need to react like that.

To me, it's a lot like those people who say that they're "in love with" a celebrity.
I don't think that's true at all, though.

They probably feel infatuated, and perhaps lustful towards the celebrity, and probably pine to be with them a fair bit.... but that's different from being in love with them I reckon.

Since it's such a one-sided thing, then perhaps a more accurate turn of phrase would be "I'm in love at Britney Spears / Johhny Depp / Ms Splosion Man / Pacman (whoever)"

Literary ones, yes. Which I think involves a lot of my own imagination of what the person is like to fill in the gaps, including appearance, so it gives me room to give the character aspects of my ideal partner...but I am a huge bookworm, and many times I have read a character who I just really, really wish existed in the real world so that I could meet her and fall in love with her. I translate that to hopes that someone LIKE her does exist in the real world, and I will meet her, though.
