They want to 'take care' of someone. That's all it is.

If he is a control freak he would want to have the financial power at his hands.Then he can tell you what to wear,and what to say,and who you should associate with.

True, but that's not exclusive to the rich. Poor men with control issues find a way to do that just as often. They can ruin you just as badly if you try to leave as well. This is why I didn't touch on abusive relationships.

Agreed,my ex was poor and I have never met a bigger control freak.I know he had a bad childhood,and maybe that was his way of dealing,but it was awful beyond belief.
It's like he tried to erase me and build what he wanted.

Been there, but mine was upper middle class. Not rich, but not poor either. He still tries to control me sometimes, but it never works.

Both sexes can be controlling and manipulative it's not just exclusively poor or rich men.

Most men that are millionaires are controlling and want to suppress their woman's rights so according to this study that's why they choose on average more poor women compared to what they make.

However, Most women that are millionaires just don't want to be taken advantage of in divorce court so they want somebody of equal value.

Men just can't win!

Nobody suggested women weren't capable of being abusive.

My bio -mom was abusive,psychologically,as a kid I was scared of her.Im really super glad she did not raise me.Oh God would I have been f****d up.

I've met a great deal many women that are psychologically and emotionally abusive. Women are less likely to be physically abusive, but only with peers. When it comes to children, the chances are about even.

here in this country it is more that a rich woman is used to a certain lifestyle and that can be an expensive lifestyle that poorer women do not tend to worry about.

We should also take note that upper class richer men do not tend to go below middle class but the mining class here tend to go after bogans which ends up with a subclass here that is locally termed cashed up bogans.

In my city, millionaires are so common it is like mud almost. Around 30% of the city population here is worth over 1million. Our mean house price is over half a million. :shrugs:

The article didn't delve into this area, but I suspect that the rich guys are hoping for a tad more than just "someone to take care of."

I'm voluntarily poor* and I'm looking for a poor little girl...

*) this might change if I get a job someday after I'm graduated but what will I then do with all that money..?
