I read some research recently that studied eigenfaces and found that one consistent factor in attractiveness was that we view more symmetrical faces as more attractive. Since asymmetries are random, if you combine or merge any large number of faces, the asymmetries will tend to cancel out leaving a more symmetrical average, which many people will see as more attractive.

I find a lot of those faces attractive. But I'll state for the record that I personally do find the last "test" face before the average-of-all-averages, row three column four, the most attractive ... because her eyes look the most alive. Those eyes look like there's somebody home, a mind behind the face. (Row three columns two and three, as well as row two columns three and five, also have "alive" eyes, and I find them particularly attractive too.)

"Eyes betray the soul and bare its thinking
Beyond words, they say so many things to me
A stranger here reborn it seems,
Awaking wonders deep in me.
If nothing's ventured nothing's gained
So I must seize the day

And fighting time so hard I pray
that this moment lasts forever,
And will the world stay standing still at least for me.
Through my eyes stare into me,
I bare my heart for all to see
With my face turned to the sun there ever standing still."

Sometimes I think VNV Nation is the soundtrack of my soul.
