this is rape culture on display for the whole world.

Nah, it's just a bit of humour. A simple play on words that the op didn't realize were an unintentional innuendo.

Besides that, the chances of that are slim to none seeing as I'm gay.

Get over it. It was just a simple joke. Lighten up & have a laugh.

Unlike you, I don't find rape funny. Cathylynn is right, this is a horrible example of our rape culture, and I really don't know what the point of this thread is.

How do you or anyone who's posted about this before you equate my comment to rape?

I never said or implied anything about nonconsensual sex.

Inviting attention is different from inviting sexual advances. Period.

The phrase "she was asking for it" and comments about how a woman was dressed are commonly understood references to rape. Your comment, quoted first above, is sexually aggressive and that you are gay doesn't alter that.

She want's somebody to think she is pretty.
'
The guy is inviting sex.

I don't know why I interpret the guys behavior differently, but is seems pretty straight forward that a guy would be advertising for sex. Women use looking good or being flirty for a number of different reasons, most of them have nothing to do with sex.

I do think the woman would be inviting unwanted sexual advances if she wasn't interested in being pursued sexually. I think it is something that women should expect based on personal experience. There are a lot of guys who are interested only in sex. They don't see the shades of gray. For instance, I was in my late 20's before I understood that people sometimes flirt just to be flirting, with no intentions of taking it any further. Another thing that a lot of guys don't get is that women don't want attention from just anybody. There is usually a certain person, or type of person, they are trying to attract.

I'm not trying to justify the ill-treatment of women. I am just saying how our society is. I don't think any woman is asking to be raped. Every person is responsible for his or her own sexual behavior. Flirting or even doing sexual stuff other than intercourse does not mean you are obligated to give somebody sex. The other person is obligated to accept you saying no. If they can't, that's their problem.

That's not a fair comparison.

I said it before and I'll say it again you are a complete hypocrite.

This is a fair comparison. Is he asking for it leafplant?? :chin:

What's the subtext here? This thread seems to be fishing for a particular answer, and not a pleasant one.

Common sense should indicate that dressing up invites people to notice, unless you're the type to put on your best outfit and spend two hours on your makeup to lounge in bed on a Saturday morning (see: purely for oneself). People are free to make advances towards people they notice, not to grab, stalk, harass, or force themselves. The person receiving the advances is free to turn them down.

come on he just made a joke that he throught she was attractive, so she must be all ready taken. How the heck do you get rape from that.

Plus he's gay so would probably be more interested in the guy on with the motorbike. :lmao:

Are there really people here who don't know that to say that a woman was "asking for it" because of the way she was dressed has been used as an "excuse" for rapists for many, many years?

jokes about rape or demeaning people for their appearance or assuming anything about what it means you are allowed to do to them IS "rape culture" and encourages people to think of others as objects and is what has allowed for so much abuse and damage.

no one "asks for it" unless they actually come out and say, "yes I want to have sex with you"

fun and games, just getting to know people
passing the time
another way of being pleasant without implying any actual contract (people love attention)
