33 years was a little more than I gave my first big love. I gave up after 10 years only. :-)

Sounds like you may have bumped into some SCA folks. My wife and I were at a castle café once and also overheard some people in medieval costume talking like that in the next booth. About their 'Personas'. It was odd, but interesting at the same time. They were having an event on the castle grounds and in the hall.

I wouldn't mind going to Medieval Times some day. There's one in New Jersey that I know of.

There's also a Renaissance "Faire" in upstate New York, where you could get "mead," which was a popular drink during the Middle Ages.

If they had a reenactment of a medieval battle, such as the Battle of Hastings, that would be so cool!

This fair takes place close to my home. There is a sorta cult of people who hang out at the fair and spend lots of time together, but don't know each other in real life - they only know each other's role. Even if they go out for burgers at In 'n Out, they behave in their alternate persona.

The only medieval battle re-enactment I have seen was a Viking one in Iceland. It was incredible and it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping the fence and picking up a dropped weapon and shield and joining in. It looked quite dangerous however with wooden shields splintering and metal weapons snapping. Even though blunt, getting hit with an axe in the wrong spot (They are only supposed to hit certain 'safe' spots, like thighs or upper arms) as often happens in the excitement and confusion is still getting hit with a metal axe! They had re-enactors from all over Scandanavia there for a Viking festival and also some from eastern Europe. Watching two shield walls collide is awesome. 8O

True....they could cause bruises, and that funny feeling when your humerus ("funny bone") is hit.

They should have weapons that are tipped with the same material that the army uses in basic training. This material is used, especially, within the weapons employed during the "hand-to-hand" combat segments.

Thanks for the love, smudge and vickygleitz; but I must warn you, I'm not always positive-- in any sense of the word.

I know how it was difficult at the time, but it is kinda 'Awww' cute now. :) It is so funny what happens between people who like each other sometimes. Its like it short circuits their brain or something.

My first date was set up by a mutual friend who knew this fellow and I both liked the Beatles. I was 13 and he was 18. He took me to fast food, made me pay for my own dinner, and then asked if he could share my fries... since he had been too cheap to buy his own (he wasn't poor).

My first love was this fellow's best friend. He was so sweet. When he picked me up for our first date, he was wearing his Grandmothers clothing- fake furs and a parasol. I thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. :) Glad to say, we're still good buddies all these years later.
