79% isn't very high (and it could just be someone who hasn't answered more than 1-200 questions, there are over 2000 of them altogether!). I go for those above 90%, maybe above 80% but that's pushing it. It's all based on the questions that other users have created anyway so it's not meant to be an infallible system, it's just a guide. You then read their profile and check their answers to get a better impression.

OkC doesn't match you with people who have the same details in the Details section as you, either. The only filtering it does is with the "I'm looking for" section, so if you say you are looking for those who are single, it shouldn't bring up married people, for example (but it might, depending on where it is that you are looking). And it shouldn't bring up the same sex if you are straight. The only way to search for specifics is to do your own filtering in the Browse Matches section. And if you filter too much, you won't get good results, because say you filter for "Hindu", anyone who has not provided their religious stance will not come up in your results, even if they really are a Hindu. Better off leaving it as open as possible and browsing through.

Also, if you are using Quickmatch, it will show you people who have Liked you, so you might get matches there from other countries or way outside your age range, because THEY have found YOU and like you, so OkC presents them to you just in case you like them back.

If they don't meet your "I'm looking for" criteria then they are probably (definitely? not sure) someone who Liked you, that's why they have appeared. Otherwise it brings up people who match your criteria.

Well, I'm not really looking for anybody on OkCupid, so I don't want to answer back for that reason either as I would then give them false hopes. The girl that PMed me also seemed to be fed-up with guys her own age, and were actually looking for reliable guys significantly older. That's another reason why I don't want to PM her back as that could result in her thinking that group of men were just as bad.

i actually got a message from a potential match (85%) within a day, but we quickly realized we lived too far away (different countries)

I've gotten like maybe 5 messages total in all the years I have tried OkCupid. A couple was girls I talk to that talks back but the conversation ended fairly fast. One is someone giving me her number but then she ignored it (probably a scam)

confused under quickmatch there is "matches" which is everyone on okcupid(includes married people, people who are enemies, everyone), who you liked, and who likes you(can't see without paying them their $10)
back when i could see some due to a glitch in their mobile app. I tried messaging them they never replied. so yeah they liked me o.O. if i liked someone and they messaged me i'd send one back. i imagine they accidentally liked my proflie when it came up.

^ Also you can't see the whole profile in Quickmatch, once they liked you they could then check out your profile in full and they may have realised you weren't compatible.

suppose doesn't matter either way. just means same thing that I'm unloveable.

when i use to do that id read what bit of the profile they showed, on pof i click the info and read their profile.
