Erm... women can and do serve in the military, so there's no reason why, in countries with mandatory military service, they shouldn't serve on the same basis as men. Likewise, there are single men out there who are good fathers, so there is no reason why the woman should get de facto automatic custody (yes, plenty of bad fathers exist, but there also exist mothers like Mary Bell's). In most things decisions should be made on a case-by-case basis rather than blanket decisions for each gender.

I understand why you are irritated at this blasé culture of hedonism…however, try to understand that women are very much objectified and the concept of the feminine very much undermined and misunderstood because of this.

Also realize that historically, it is the greater majority of males that have acted in an irrational and over-emotional manner, by finding it necessary to wage the world’s wars, rather than care for the world's ills.

Very true, though women in positions of power are often warmongers (most people of either sex are irrational - which, as an aside, for me discredits economics as a science, since rationality is its most fundamental assumption). ideally such decisions would be taken by rational, well-informed people of either sex.

The main problem is that the measure of "rationality" is often defined by those in power.

Forcing women into the military is not a good idea. Actually IMO women should not be allowed in the military if they want to enlist except maybe in non-combat situations. Women are a liability during war time. They are more likely to get captured and raped then other troops have to come in and risk their lives to save them. In almost every country except for parts of Europe, Canada and America women are treated worse than dogs and it is beyong cruel to let a woman soldier get captured because we all know what happens to them. Women for the most part are not as physically strong as men and again risk getting captured or shot and therefore are useless in combat situations except for maybe as fighter pilots.

I don't think forced female military service is the norm because if countries fought for long there would be a serious disruption in the birthrate of that nation if the females were not at home making and raising babies. That's how the world continues on. If new babies are not made our nation dies.

Alot of women are too short or too fat to met military requirements so its sort of a mute point.

American men aren't drafted any longer so why should women?

Few Aspies can meet the requirements to get into the military so why are Aspie guys insisting that the women serve their country when the Aspie men aren't even able to?

Women POWs are also much less likely to be executed than men so they're not worse off in everything if they're captured. if a draft is necessary, everyone who can serve should (yes, men are more likely to have the required strength and so on - but some women would meet the requirements) unless there are exceptional reasons (essential munitions workers, for example). Though few countries actually need mandatory military service.
I insist, this sort of thing should be decided on the merits of individual cases (ability to serve, in the case of the military; qualities as a parent in the case of custody disputes) rather than decisions by gender.

I don't think it's that female soldiers are more likely to be captured than males doing the same things. It's just that because they're more unusual, they get more attention. This was recently seen in the Iran incident, where all the headlines were about the female soldier, with the fourteen men who were also captured being secondary--after all, we're all familiar with male soldiers being in peril, so it's not as newsworthy.

"People can be as*holes." This isn't exactly news. It can be tempting to make generalisations about the Other from a handful who are evil bastards, but they're usually incorrect--virtually no statements can be applied to the mental and social condition of either 50% of the human race.

More to the point, they're unhelpful. Okay, you've identified the other gender as a hated enemy who cannot be trusted under any circumstances. All you've done is let your bitterness and fear cut you off from some potentially good people. Not much of a triumph.

War sucks. Bad things happen to all those involved. Many of those
things are worse (in my opinion) than rape or a pregnancy from
rape. I don't see it as that big a deal.

brother, I couldn't agree with you more.

Women think too much with their emotions and not with logic and reasoning. I don't think it's their fault because its how they were brought up. Not all women are like this, but many are and it's very irritating.

Luckily, we men are not cursed with PMS, so we don't have the same sorts of mood swing problems.

Sorry, Im sounding sexist here, I'm not, but this does happen to be the case with a lot of women i've met and read about.

And every time I see a bad driver on the road who is swirving from side to side, changing lanes in front of me without indicating, or not looking where their going in the parking lot, 9/10 times its a woman between the ages of 18-40.

My mom is a bad driver too. She would have got into a bad T-bone crash (her fault) if it wasnt for me being her eyes. When she is very emitional, she tends to run stop signs, drive in the middle of 2 lanes and change lanes in intersections.

Once again, I'm not sexist, women are just as capable of doing everything than men can. They just go about live a little differently and it's hard for me to understand.
