Polygamists might have enough numbers to start their own mutual insurance company where it wouldn't care about the marriage arrangements, only the injuries and diseases. But, taxes, yeah.... They should be generally neutral based on the average replacement rate of about 2.1 children.

I wish the government wouldn't be involved in our relationships, at all. Polygamy between legal, consenting adults shouldn't bother anybody outside the relationship. I say do what makes you happy. :D

As things are allowing multiple marriages will lead to a few men monopolizing most women. Maybe in a generation (or several) after your research is expanded on and it gets out leading to aspie women becoming self-aware so they don't marry incompatible NTs there will be true polyamory. Even then, what about the problem with a few NTs monopolizing NT women?

Of course if the neoconservatives in Washington that invaded the Ukraine covertly in a coup (and just tried the same in Macedonia) get us in a WWIII with either Russia or China (which will go nuclear in a month) in the next few years none of that matters as the top of the food chain will be cockroaches instead of humans.

I posted this reply earlier but it didn't come through. I'll try again.

Why do you think that aspie women and NT men aren't compatible? Do you think the same vice versa is true? If so, why? Why do you think that self aware aspie women won't marry NT's? I'm very self aware and I've been married to an NT for 28 years and even though we have our problems from time to time we are extremely compatible.

Also, you do know that most women won't go for a polygamous marriage, right? I doubt a whole bunch of men would either but I'm pretty sure most women wouldn't.

Do you not think aspie guys would also have a bunch of wives? I'm talking about the ones who do have social skills enough to date.

Something that nobody seems to have thought of is that if polygamy is legalized then it's not just men who can have more than one spouse. Women will be able to have more than one husband too. I wouldn't mind having more than one husband, but I don't think a lot of men would be ok with that. Aren't you afraid that a few NT shallow gold digging b*****s (and it's not just NT's who can be this, aspie women can be one as well) will be monopolizing all the good men?

I'm with everything you said, Olive Oil!

None of it's for me, but I always wonder why polygamy is always a guy with several women and not one woman with several men? They even have a reality show about that very subject -polygamy with one guy and several women. If you watch it, you'll see that the women get upset because one of the wives will get something the others don't - time with the husband, having a baby, a new house (they all live in separate houses). When I watched it, I was wondering just what in the heck does that guy do for a living to afford all those wives and kids? Several of the women don't work. And at times, you can see some of the children as they get older not accepting of the situation. I would never share my man with anyone and I hope he thinks the same about me.

I'm also with you Olive, about Nt and Aspie relationships working. You just need two understandable people.

The Denobulans in Star Trek Enterprise had polyamorous relationships. A man typically had three wives, who each had three husbands. This created extremely large extended families; Phlox had 720 familial relationships, 42 with sexual possibilities. In addition, Denobulan marriages were not exclusive, and married Denobulans could be intimate with anyone they chose.

Well I suppose marriages between aspies and NTs can work sometimes, but I'm sure rdos suspects a poor success rate. Have you taken his Aspie quiz? http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php

As for gold diggers monopolizing the "good NTs", I suppose maybe they'll monopolize the rich NTs. Time will tell. I doubt it though.

When I was in my 20s and early 30s, my reaction would have been to say polygamy would not be something to try. But now I'm almost 40 and my thoughts have changed. I do also agree that the government should have any say in people's relationships (aside from hurting someone and/or dating underage people).

Let's see...there is a reason that my thoughts have changed on this. I'd like to have love and sexual realations with an Aspie man (like myself) that is already married. My idea was to gage his reaction about polygamy in general and see what his stance was on it...prior to just jumping in and scaring him by outright asking if he and his wife would be open to trying such an arrangement. People have told me now that he seems to like me, and I know that I like him a lot.
We don't see each other or talk anymore...but I still think about him everyday. If we were to be in close contact again, am almost certain that he and I could pick up where we left off. :-)

In worries that my additional question might derail this post (which is unintended), could someone please help me in a better way to approach this. He is a good and loyal man, and have noticed in many ways that he is conservative (perhaps not in a political way) but in his views about many things. I don't wish to offend him, but if it's true that he wants to continue being loyal to his wife, yet also feels torn by liking me...perhaps we could address that issue.

The other thing was my hope is not to do anything in secret, but rather to get her permission to be with him. They've been married for approximately 35 years now. And I've personally seen after that time that the wife herself can feel that their sex life is stale and is open to someone else coming into the picture....but am not sure if that is the case with her???

Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks in advance.

That sounds pretty familiar to me. I no longer have any doubts that polyamory is a neurodiverse trait, and even if many neurodiverse people have problems to find a single relationship, they still are more positive about polyamory than NTs. Polyamory is also related to the neurodiverse relationship traits, like strong attachments. Even more important, polyamory forms a "breakup" route for neurodiverse people that isn't hurtful. It's sad that so few people know that they are capable of polyamory, and that even fewer actually will try it out.

The big compatibility-issues are not in general neurodiverse vs neurotypical traits, but specifically in the relationship preferences. NTs typically desire a lot of "intimacy" (regular sex), while neurodiverse people form super-strong attachments that they cannot easily get out of. When people are different in those domains, it can cause a lot of problems and pain.

In polyamory, this isn't a big problem as all the people involved have agreed upon whom is involved with whom and are sharing time fairly. It's only a problem when a woman has random sex with strangers.

I personally think it's a hypocrisy to what marriage actually is, but with that said, I don't actually care at all what other people do with their lives and bodies, and I don't feel my life is threatened in anyway by it. So people can have at it.

But eventually, the child wants to know which one is papa.
