You will have too look harder if you are looking for a close friend--chances are you will need to have similar interests and background in politics, economics, and hobbies. I don't think these matter as much if you marry to raise kids--most of your time will be spent raising kids so the differences aren't as important. I have been making my profile more detailed to show my uniqueness. No way can I be confused with normal.

Politics is the hardest and I always see a clear difference, a lot of women lean more towards the left wing while men seem to lean more towards the right wing. I don't expect to find a lot of similarities politically and I don't intend to rule out over 80% of women because of that. We're simply not gonna discuss politics a lot and if we do I just mention I may be libertarian which is mostly unknown around here in Europe.

Backgrounds in economics...you mean a similar job...well not a lot of women in IT, at least not on the technology side.

Hobbies...hmm it's enough for me to have a couple of similar likes we could do together like walking, watching certain movies, a bit of (practical life-oriented) philosophy, museums, trying out new things. She doesn't have to love Star Wars or Star Trek like I do that's just stuff I used to watch. There's no large community focused around that sort of thing in my country anyway.

But I feel so many other people expect way too much, that they want an extremely samey type of partner. My attitude about compatibility seems much more open minded than the average.

Economics might be better worded as similar social status. Nobody wants to move down financially to support a partner, though moving up is acceptable for most.
