True that. It diminishes the value of the whole thing.

If you have neither looks nor status, then you don't get approached at all. Well, I've been approached a couple of times in my life... by men.

It's immensely stupid and annoying.

You know what kind of mentality I'm talking about. Those girls who have their MySpace default pictures be of them kissing their boyfriends, and the words "THIS IS MY BOYFRIEND AND I LOVE HIM SO HANDS OFF" pasted somewhere else on their profile (even if they've only known each other for weeks). Those girls who are particularly loud on Valentine's Day, particularly adament about the Public Displays of Affection. (PDA's.) Those girls who find any possible excuse to mention (and possibly brag about) their boyfriends.

They're so bloody common.

Why is it so hard to find someone who genuinely is out for real human connection rather than somebody to show off?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Especially if the boyfriend is dog butt ugly. What do you mean "HANDS OFF". I say to myself, who wants your ugly, raggedy boyfriend anyway.

What gets on my nerves is on Valentines day when women have their boyfriends or husbands deliver their flowers and gifts to them while they are working. They just do this to show off. I'm sure that their husband or boyfriends could have given them their gifts after work. But these women want everybody at work to see what a "good man" they have.

Where I work, there was even one woman whose fiance proposed to her in front of everybody at work. I just wanted to throw up over that.

Tell me about it! I'm so sick of seeing this. One time, I thought my new girlfriend was showing me off to her friends, and I totally resented it inside, and let her know to a degree that that was uncomfortable for me. I guess I didn't like it mostly because it was right after we started dating that I seemed immediately carted-off to her social display case. That kind of treatment, which most men might like, is for me almost enough to make me dump a girlfriend then and there.

I am not a boy toy or a trophy! I am a human being! I can only be a boyfriend after I've really connected with a girl! If any girl uses me as a trophy, I will break up with her! There is no reason why I am just a tool for any girl to show off!

Actually, I don't use MySpace or Facebook. My brother got addicted to MySpace one time and we had some problems including a very high phone bill, links to all kinds of pornography, and computer viruses. Plus, I watch the news quite a bit. But anyway, sorry about that. I was just venting. It's not right to be a trophy. To me, it's almost like treating a woman like they are inferior.

I totallly agree - I'm not looking for trophies, and don't want to be used as one.

Yeah. I don't mind it, as long as it's not
all that I am.

I take myself seriously. I think everyone should take themselves seriously.

Well thats really great. You know the unexamined life is not worth living. It gives me joy in my heart to know that people like you are around. So life-forms like me who are not lucky enough to be so highly evolved as yourself can show me the truth.
Ive realised the errors of my ways, im much more than a trophy.

I just don't see where stroking someone's
ego is necessarily a bad thing. Both my wife
and I were proud of how the other looked,
and were very happy to have such a pretty
thing.

I think it's just a question of ratio, which varies per person. I love being appreciated for either my mind or my body -- preferrably both, as in my current relationship -- but if I were only appreciated for my mind, that would be fine with me. But I can't say the same for the body. I dunno, everybody's different. :?
