Well, one time someone actually mentioned Asperger's Syndrome... it came up in a conversation, and I said (with a smile) "hey, that's what I have." They looked at me like I'd made a mildly tasteless joke, and then kept on talking as if I hadn't said anything.
Weird.
But what I meant was kind of like that. If it comes up or something, say "hey, I'm one'a dem, ak'shully!"
HAHA
That's exactly what I would do. And I'd probably get the same reaction.
In fact, I think I DID do that once. Something similar, actually. Someone had a negative painting, like an eye puzzle, you know? To most people it looks like a splotch but if you look at the white space it has a picture. And I saw the picture. And he said, "yeah my mom (who is a teacher's assistant) took it to work and only the autistic kids could see it." and I said, "Yeah, must be the Asperger's Syndrome in me." and everyone kind of blinked and changed the subject. I'm not sure if they realized I was serious, or if they didn't know what AS is, or WHAT they thought. Anyway... people usually ignore me when I say things like that. I think it makes them uncomfortable.... maybe....
