My party promoter friends organization's acronym is "VAL" so they usually throw a "VALentines" gay dance party in a warehouse. Their party spot suffered damage from some arsonist recently so I dunno if they're doing that this year. I'm not sure if it's super hookup oriented like some of their party themes or if it's just a dance party that's somewhat hookup oriented. Either way, I think it's neat for whoever's single (or not, who cares?) and wants to go party it up & dance to dj's until late night instead of sit around feeling left out of this Hallmark holiday. I've never gone as I haven't been interested in partying that time of year. But I think it's great for those who're in the mood to party.

Chances are good that there are anti-valentines singles parties thrown in cities all over the place, gay or straight, and anyone in the mood to go party that night can find one to attend.

*shrug* This year valentine's feels so "meh, whatever, who cares?" compared to other years where it's bothered me a bit being single. This time it's more likely that I'll stay in and read a book or something, perfectly content to do so. Having long term goals to focus on that are far more important to me than ever having a relationship is such a blessing as I can very easily look passed my single status and towards my goals & not really care if I ever meet someone along the way.

I might just treat myself to some nice coffee I wouldn't otherwise buy, like one of those 5-dollar mochas. I was dating someone and excited, but they decided they're not ready to trust and be in a relationship again. I guess I survived before and I'll survive after.

Valentine's Day is one of those horribly contrived faux holidays expressly designed to sell greeting cards, chocolates, and loneliness.
Personally, I think that we should all celebrate Lupercalia instead; strip naked, oil our bodies, don a wolf skin, get roaring drunk and fornicate for 72 hours.
I'd find that infinitely preferable to a smarmy card, a handful of dead flowers, and a dreadfully overpriced meal at a pretentious overrated restaurant.
