I disagree with the "message". Crushes and romantic love are the best forms of relationships, and cannot be replaced with one-night stands, friends or relatives.

I don't think this ignores Maslow's hierarchy of needs, to me Goldfish's OP just presents a more relaxed, reality-based perspective on it.
