Marknis drives.

He’s an hour from Austin.

Isn't Sly a conservative living in a blue state?

Then any abominable car-like product would widen possibilities and add options.

Mark - I don't remember if I ever read how it is with you and cars:
Are you unable to learn to drive or is it that you just don't own a car?

I drive a car. I just don’t fanboy over them like the majority of men do in my area. Car fanboys also tend to be Trump supporters and are very hostile.

The city I live in, Temple, is tiny compared to Austin but I still have to drive because I don’t anywhere near close to the crappy job I work at as well as the few places I can stand.

They don’t make it easy for me since they dominate the social scene here and they crushed my self-esteem to the point I should be dead.

I never expected you to be a car fanboy, I guess average age of a car owned by my friends is about 15 years :D
I just think a vehicle of your own gives more possibilities.

Think of it this way, Marknis:

When I was 31, I didn't have my driver's license yet.

Before I had one, I was literally stuck in the house. My parents were partially to blame for that.

I imagine living in Texas without a car is close to impossible.
So you do have something to drive, don't you?

But if we trust Wikipedia, Temple is about 100km (65 miles, I'm European, I think in kilometers) from Austin. That's something even with your own car.

It's an hour's drive from where he lives to Austin. Not a really long drive. Especially when most of it is done on an Interstate. If his car gets the average "miles per gallon," he would have used up about 6 gallons on a round trip, or about $15.00 worth of gas/petrol. Perhaps, the main problem is gas costs, and maybe parking costs if he has difficulty finding street parking.

I wish I was able to drive one hour to my job every day!

I drive to Austin whenever I get the itch to do so. I just still struggle socially even when I am there. I wonder if the fact I don’t live there makes people consider that a deal breaker for even platonic friendships.

People who live in Austin don't usually care whether or not somebody lives in Austin. I would venture to guess that many people who attend music venues in Austin don't actually live in Austin.

I would continue to go to your music places, and derive enjoyment from the bands.

I can’t just pack up and move. I am practically broke.

I’ve actually encountered people who are from different states at the music shows I go to.

I know you can't, Marknis.

Interestingly, the county where Marknis lives did not vote overwhelmingly for Trump like most counties around Austin---where most voted for Trump at above a 70% rate. In his county, only 55% voted for Trump, though he did win the county. This was similar to the Trump vote for the entire state of Texas.

Hillary Clinton won Travis County, where Austin is located, by a 66 to 27 percent margin.

I would say the percentage of liberal/progressive-minded people in Marknis' county is higher than in most parts of Central Texas, excepting Austin and San Antonio.

Just try not to miss it if a social person offers you inclusion.
It may not be the ideal group, you may feel an oddball in it, you may not get any dates, but it's the easieest way I know to work on your own social network.

I wish I lived that close to such a big city.
