That’s true. I would probably call, especially if he had a longer drive than I did or if there were some other concerns.

But you still did not answer my question.

Texting each other “I am home now” is what we do.

No xoxos?

What about with a new person? Would you text then (minus the xoxos)?

With my current girlfriend we did so since day 1, even with the ex before her (without the xoxo).

As for earlier dates, I can’t… remember much, some just ghosted even that I think.

That’s potentially a sexist assumption.

Maybe she is much bigger and physically stronger than her date.

I agree. Maybe she had more car experience too.

Myself, I’ve never changed a tire and I’d likely pass out from fear if I got stuck on our busy highways. All the men I know are good with stuff like that, or dealing with tow trucks.

That being said I do lots of long drives, like 12 hours sometimes. There wasn’t always anyone to text but if there was, I’d kind of assume they’d check on me, and vice versa. Especially if I had just left from meeting them for the first time.

When my grandmother used to fly home to California she’d ring our phone three times and hang up, then repeat, when she got home. That’s when it cost money to do long distance landline calls.

I live in a tiny country, with 12 hours driving I would be in Ankara.

“Babe, do you want some kebab?”

I mean six hours each way round trip, but sometimes all in one day.

I love kebab!

That looks tasty. I’ve been living on egg sandwiches the past few days because I’m broke.

I don't consider it sexist but if it's a 1st date with two people who never met in person before, some would probably view that as creepy, stalking, or harassing behavior. It seems like most anything someone does or does not do on a 1st date these days can be seen as a huge potential threat.

^ I wouldn’t view it that way although I suppose it depends on how one went about it.

Thanks for your input.

So you wouldn’t say “Text me and let me know you got home safely” or something like that?

Are you saying that you’d want to but it might be taken the wrong way, or that you wouldn’t even want to?

Curious.

I probably would say something like that but I have heard some so-called dating rules about texting/calling right after a date being seen as desperate or creepy. I think I heard the rule is to wait 3 days but I may be wrong.
I'm also thinking of a scenario where the women did not feel very comfortable during the date but she didn't express that or the guy didn't pick up on it & then she freaks out at the idea of him walking her to her car.

Interesting.

My point of view is that if my daughter in her 20s drove to meet a stranger she’d never met before, and for some reason (car trouble or worse) she didn’t make it home, I’d be demanding of the dude to tell me when and where he last saw her. If he said he left her inside the cinema or restaurant I’d be pretty leery about that, especially if it was at night. I think it might look bad on the dude that he didn’t at least check on her getting home safely or show some concern. That could be traced to a phone ping in a worst case scenario to prove he wasn’t at the landfill or buying duct tape at Walmart. (Laughing but not really.)

I’d whoop my son’s ass if he didn’t check on people, even his female friends.

If it’s a noticeably bad meeting then I get it, but if they get along well I don’t understand. It seems like common courtesy to me and I’d do the same for my female friends.

I have PTSD from a bad thing of this nature which is likely triggering me though.
