Are they? Or is that just something that people say because from what I can tell, the standards for women are a lot lower in terms of "good with language." If I said half the things I've seen women get away with saying, I would have been beaten to a bloody pulp many times over.

Not that men are necessarily great with language, but there is a much more powerful incentive to not suck at language in the form of physical violence from getting it wrong.

They have credibility more than anyone because they experienced both first hand.

I'm a bi man and I'd say the same thing. If I didn't want to have my own children in a marriage, I probably wouldn't even bother. It's just so much work.

EDIT: At least in terms of the single women that I've met. YMMV.

All sexes are confusing.
At least to me.

That's because humans are confusing.

Especially for a lizard-person. :P

I remember being taught in 6th form, in an English class, that women were better than men with language. The lesson referenced some study which counted the amount of words the two different sexes had in their vocabulary and so on. I don't have the study handy as this was almost 20 years ago that I was told this.

Maybe it is out of date info', I don't know anymore! :)

New research shows that young girls may learn language more completely than their male peers".

There are differences in the ways that men and women communicate.

https://katiecouric.com/lifestyle/relat ... versations.

Quote:

...According to Dr. Furlich, people born biologically as females “have a much more integrated brain” — which means more connections across both hemispheres of the brain. On the other hand, men have more connections within each hemisphere. He also argues that female brains have more white matter, which helps coordinate different areas together. However, male brains have more gray brain matter, which helps process information.

Based on this argument, these brain structure differences shape our social interactions. If women have more connectivity across hemispheres, they are able to engage in a conversation while also analyzing their partner’s behaviors. Conversely, men have a more literal understanding of conversation because they can only analyze or converse. This theoretically shapes different communication styles between genders....

...Dr. Furlich argues that brain structure differences make women better at non-verbal communication. Women also have more blood flow to areas of the brain responsible for emotion, language, and memory during conversations, so these centers become very active when women communicate with others. Dr. Furlich also says that when women communicate, they weave memories and emotions into the topic at hand. Men, on the other hand, tend to use more “report talk,” which means they may be inclined to give literal, non-emotional responses during conversations...

In my experience some women like to do small talk and some men tend to over explain.

Well, yes. The article cited above was written by Katie Couric, and Dr. Furlich is a man, who may be over-explaining a tad.

In fact, Mr. Furlich might be accused of "mansplaining."

Keep in mind that that's roughly 10% of the communication. Body language and the rest is far more important. It's why I question whether it's really true as of it really were true, then what we see in social interactions doesn't make much sense.

:?

It would not be so complicated if, when they got mad at me they would actually explain what made them mad instead of spending the afternoon being mad about other problems so I try to address those problems when the real thing that Jane was upset about was something she didn't mention.

I have heard a similar statistic before. I am not sure how true it is though?
