My last gf wrote me a private message on Reddit, back when I was active on that site, before I got banned a bunch of times for deviating from the Democratic Party line. I wrote back, and our correspondence quickly became daily and snowballed to the point where I reached Reddit's maximum character count for PMs (10,000 characters, if memory serves). Then we moved to email, and there were no limits. Then we escalated to telephone, video conferencing, and finally in-person meetings.
