To those who are undiagnosed how the hell you can be sure you have AS is beyond me though it’s not to say you do not have it.

I suspect that I'm about as qualified to determine
as is some psychologist who had to look up the
criterion in the DSM and run through them.

To those diagnosed AS and believe that in many ways we are NT but with some added extras i.e. on the verge of, if not actually gifted with super-brains then I full heartedly agree with you. We are gifted in many ways though this unfortunately doesn’t always fit in with the majority of the ignorant general public.

Gifted in many ways? Yes. Superbrains? No.
All we are is autistics without any f*****g problem
with learning language and interacting with our
environment. What does that mean? Well, it tends
to mean that we have somewhat higher IQs than
the average (as those with mild problems end up
as HFA).

Were his brains in his arse as well????

There's a tendency to bond with ones patients.
And to present them in a good light. Add to that
our tendency to focus our learning into certain
areas, and we indeed tend to have more specialized
knowledges. Very much like what one gets by focusing
to achieve a PhD.

Like I said, there are some gifts. And, if your interests
are on things which are useful to society, they can be
VERY helpful. But it ain't no superbrain.

I was lucky to go private to be diagnosed by a consultant psychiatrist who is recognised as an authority on adult behavioural syndromes.

Ok let’s turn this around, Super Brain I can live with and it makes me smile. s**t for Brains would make me want to knock the person out who said it to me.

I better with the Super Brain rightly or wrongly

The old proverb is :
--- In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king ---

However it has been observed that this is not really true, but rather:
--- In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is an elucidated idiot ---
This refers to the reaction of all others who have no concept of what this individual is sensing. As a result they assume it is some sort of hallucination or mental disease and the poor person is a defective who must be put in an asylum for their own good.

Now should this gifted person be able to allay the fears of others or hide his/her gift while still using it, he/she might indeed rise to great power, but is this kind of power anything that aspies really want ??? Most leaders are "people" oriented, and as a result they are not particularly good at technical matters nor are they all that good at dealing with the physical world in any innovative way. (my opinion), that is rather the opposite of any aspie trait I know.

AS really is a blessing and a curse varying on how you look at it. A blessing because we all have a different way of thinking and analyzing things when compared to an NT and this way of thinking differs between each of us who has AS. I like to think of it as permanently thinking outside the box which some people find really hard to do. That and because of the way we think we can avoid things like peer pressure, nor do some of us see the draw of conformity.

On the other side of the coin its a curse because we've essentially been "forced" into our own little group due to our social/non-verbal problems. Now this problem isn't impossible to get around it's just very, very difficult for some of us. In time we can overcome it. It just takes us longer to learn the skills needed to do it. Though in terms of dating thats a whole different story >_<
