I'm sorry but what does a relationship have to do with sobriety?
I can't think of anything except for having to order a coke instead of wine on a date.
(I'm sorry if i sound rude, not my intention to do so, I'm just wondering.)
Glad you are curious, curious people learn a lot!
The idea of changing anything is to break old habits and make new ones. Sobriety for drunks pretty much takes up all their lives in the first year or so. Learning to make different decisions takes a rarefied environment, we say "different playgrounds, different playmates, different play things." Relearning how to live with those we are attracted to is one of the benefits of laying off a relationship we weren't into before we started getting sober.
So, what we do is a personal courtesy and not rush into a relationship with anyone that is there to get sober. We practice restraint and consideration. And we dodge a lot of bullets that way.
