When you both agree. This may be done by unspoken agreement (may work better for NTs). It may be by direct question (I like this method myself). There is also the Facebook method mentioned by Alex.

Maybe it would be better like that for some of us, easier? but that might be considered old fashioned by most people now I think, may not be used that much, and it makes me wonder as well as the OP when two people are officially girlfriend and boyfriend.

Unknown territory for me :P

A big problem for aspies is that as our culture grows more varied, there are no standard ways of doing things anymore and we can't memorize those rules. >_< Personally I'd prefer for a guy to err of the side of being a bit too old-fashioned than a bit too ...uh... unpredictable? But there are all kinds of women out there, including those who would be offended at the notion of being asked so formally. I think they're in the minority but I truly don't know.

Some perhaps might feel offended or at least think of it as a gender role thing to be expected from each, which they would consider to be something outdated.

I agree.

Assumed exclusivity is a gigantic pain in the rear.

What? Now that's just not true, and you know it!
It usually happens like this.

When one of the following occurs:

1. You agree to having a monogamous relationship or being bf/gf, whether is implicit or explicit.

2. he/she says you are bf/gf and you don't tell him/her that is not true.

3. You call him/her your bf/gf and he/she doesn't tell you it isn't true.

Answer:First Kiss

The First kiss means it's good to go. The first kiss means both of you are attracted to each other, and can possibly fall in love.

Anything else is either a sign of interest, or too early.

No way. I've kissed a lot of girls that I had no interest in having a relationship with.

Anybody who's ever played spin-the-bottle will be quite alarmed to find that they've now got several new relationships that they never planned.

yeah, that was funny. :)

I won't be on facebook. It's so hopelessly bourgeois, not to mention their shameful privacy issues.

True that. That kiss is just a for-the-record start of the GF/BF thing. The kiss is that symbol of trust. Of course, everyone is different, but in general terms, the first kiss is the official start for considering to start that relationship
