It sounds to me like a good metaphor for the "false me" I have to put on in many social situations - the ones where I am not interacting naturally as much as I am manually seeking social cues and reacting as others would expect. It's "fake" inasmuch as while an NT does these things unconsciously I am doing them either to fit in or simply to avoid a problem occurring. I imagine it's the same "fake me" that NT people put on in more formal situations but I also imagine that they hate it a lot less.

Maybe he meant Nietzsche's wanderer's shadow. Obviously no one really knows what this guy meant by "his 'shadow.'"

If I were you , I'd ask him directly EXACTLY what he means when he speaks of his "shadow". Pester him endlessly if he refuses to answer until he finally admits what it is :wink: .
