Probably both

Sure, I think it goes without saying I am talking about women who "look dateable" if I am allowed to say that anymore in 2024.

Well, if that's the angle you're gonna take, then the same thing could be said about men. Men who do "look dateable" can afford to have a "laundry list", and it's only the men who don't "look dateable" who have to be desperate.

And since you're not talking about women who don't "look dateable", should we also forget about the men who don't "look dateable"?

Is that another requirement we should add to your laundry list?
1 - ok personality
2 - hasn't run for the hills
3 - has to "look dateable"

?

More like this
1 - has to "look dateable"
2 - ok personality
3 - hasn't run for the hills

I'm sure your wife swoons, knowing she fit these criteria.

Pretty sensible criteria.

It seems to be consistent with the goals of some folks around here and elsewhere. This is sort of what I was alluding to when I mentioned compatibility. I and apparently others would never date someone who had that or similar criteria, especially in that order, because our goals and outlooks would be too different. Those with similar goals may be okay with it.

For me, looks would be pretty far down the list in terms of importance. Well, within reason. I wouldn’t be interested in someone who had swastika tattoos, maga hats, Poison tee shirts, Confederate insignia, poor hygiene, etc. Sometimes folks have all of those things going on at the same time.

Pretty sensible criteria.

What a romantic concept... :?

But let's say choosing a life partner is nothing more than a practical transaction. In that case those are not sensible criteria at all. They are undiscerning and would allow for pretty much anyone to become a life partner, provided they are merely reasonably attractive and not too unpleasant.

By this token I should have married my mailman years ago.

Lets get real though, people would complain like 4 year olds if anything definitive in the way of dating standards were mentioned on WP.

Less complaining is better around here but it'll never happen.

I don't think it's about "standards" at all. I think it's about making a connection with someone who is special to you.

And people can do that their own way.

This is funny, cos any time a woman decides, in under 5 minutes, that a guy does NOT meet the following requirements:

cyberdad wrote:

Which are clearly stated to be

That guy cries like a 4 year old about how unfair it is, and how she didn't even get to know him or give him a chance, and she's being shallows and petty and she's being too picky wah wah wah...

You do know plenty of kids in the 1950s looked an awful lot like the mailman or milkman.

Meanwhile in the real world most men make up their minds fairly quickly if a woman is "dateable". "Marriagable" is a different matter.
