I'm sure nothing will come of this, but what the hell?

Age: 29

Physical run-down: 6'3", and let's just say I'm a big guy weight-wise. Started balding at 22; old guys with a full head of hair piss me off.

Ethnicity: German, French, Cherokee, English, Jewish, Scottish, Irish; I'm basically an all-American mutt.

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina, USA (will be moving to Poughkeepsie, New York in January).

Education: BA, Political Science (University of North Carolina); will soon be attending Culinary Institute of America to become a chef or food writer.

I was a poli sci major, so it's no surprise politics are important to me; I am a left-wing Democrat (and had to moderate some to get to that point).

Religion: none. No religion can top the wisdom of Messrs. Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Theodore "Ted" Logan: "Be excellent to each other...and party on, dudes."

Music tastes are off the wall: damn near every genre, not to mention weird stuff like national anthems and the musical stylings of Leonard Nimoy (and I'm not even a Trekkie).

Television: The Simpsons, British comedies (Monty Python, Are You Being Served?, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, etc.), Family Guy, MST3K, Futurama, Good Eats, No Reservations, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, The Golden Girls, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show, and I'm sure many, many others that I forgot to mention.

Total film snob: Kurosawa, Bergman, documentaries, other various foreign and/or independent flicks. Okay...maybe not a total snob; it's obvious that I've seen Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure from what I wrote above. However, my favorite movie of all time is still The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Avid reader; mostly non-fiction (my favorite recent book was How The States Got Their Shapes; perfect for someone obsessed enough with geography as a kid to be a two-time state finalist at the National Geography Bee). Loved big coffee table books when I was a kid about history, geography, astronomy, etc. (and still do).

Big sports fan: UNC Tar Heels (the alma mater), Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Charlotte Bobcats and Chicago Cubs (I know; I'm a masochist).

Might as well have a computer surgically attached to my body; mine dual boots Fedora 11 (Linux, for those who didn't know) with crappy old Vista (and also Mac OS X once upon a time). Have served as my family's unpaid tech guy for years (as long as it doesn't involve a cell phone).

Don't like smoking, excessive drinkers bore me (though I'm no teetotaler) and self-righteous, evangelical vegetarians annoy me (the non-judgmental ones are fine, though).

Have had few friends and nearly no love life; those few romantic encounters were not initiated by me and left me jaded about it all, mostly because I allowed myself to be used and mistreated. I really need that on top of the AS, social anxiety, overt pickiness and body issues.

I, like apparently everyone else on WP, have a cat (a big fat orange tabby named Wellstone), but I like dogs too and want to get one in the future.

I also like long walks on the beach and jazz; I know that's cliche, but it's true.

Generally, I'm the quintessential nice guy. What's that? They finish where? Damn.

Though I've never been formally diagnosed, there's no way in hell I'm not AS; it just explains so much.

Image
I'm not stoned in the picture, by the way; that was the best shot out of about five attempts.

Oh, yeah...I like girls. That would be important, right?

And I'm a perfectionist, as you can see by the number of edits.

Longtime WP poster, about time I put something here, heh.

Name: Stinkypuppy

Orientation: Bisexual

Physical: 31, male, 5'11" (180 cm), 190 lb (86 kg), black hair, brown eyes, Asian. Yes, a bit overweight but trying to work that off, heh. I actually do like exercising, really! I've got a picture on page 321 of the "Post a Picture of the Real You" sticky in the Getting to know each other forum if you are interested. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

Location: originally San Francisco area, now in greater New Haven, Connecticut

Education: finishing up my Ph.D. in a molecular biological field from Yale next year

Interests: tons of outdoors/nature stuff, travel, foreign languages and cultures, science, food, animals (and especially dogs  ), video games, everything else is very flexible. Was a big national park nut when I still lived in California. Hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, snowboarding, etc., none of which I'm good at, but that doesn't stop me from getting out there and trying/doing stuff. If you see me face-plant while snowboarding and you laugh, well I'm glad I can liven up your day a little. 8)

Religion: Humanist/Atheist best describes my belief set, but with some Christian upbringing and some awareness of Buddhism and Taoism

Politics: Generally moderate by American standards, but with a noticeable liberal/libertarian bent

TV: Doctor Who, Torchwood, Amazing Race, Red Dwarf, pretty much anything on the Discovery and Travel channels (e.g. Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs), generally sci-fi stuff, random sitcoms and documentaries as I happen to catch them, otherwise I don't really watch much TV

Music: mostly techno, 80s stuff in general but especially synthpop, some classical and Big Band. Anything with a good beat that can be danced to is great, since I like swing dancing. I'll listen to anything except metal and hip-hop. Hard to swing dance to those, heh. I couldn't really name any music groups off the top of my head though, I can never remember who sings what.

Movies: Indiana Jones was one of my childhood heroes. Other than that, I'm not too picky as I'll watch comedies, action/adventure, psychological horror. Admittedly don't really watch movies very much either...

Current plans: Finishing up here at Yale, then either get a teaching job at a community college somewhere or get a job at a biotech company. Willing to go anywhere!

I am a dorky, very absent-minded goofball with a heart of gold and a penchant for innocent mischief... if it makes everybody smile, then it's fair game! Undiagnosed AS, I strive to be a jack-of-all-trades of sorts instead of letting any mere label define me. A dabbler in many things, master in none (not even in biology), to me life is all about learning and having fun along the way. It just would be great to have someone to share that life with. I like to help people the best I know how, and in so doing I've seen and traveled quite a bit, and have gotten quite open-minded by life as a result. I may be an Ivy Leaguer but I'm extremely down-to-earth T-shirt and jeans kind of guy, I don't like the intellectual elitism and I don't take BS well either. I love being active outdoors, but also appreciate taking time out to gaze at the nighttime sky, or watching the waves in the ocean, or reclining by an open fire and just being. Please feel free to take a look at some of my WP posts for more info.

Always looking to develop friendships, especially with AS folks, with the possibility that the friendship develops into something more. Looking for a boyfriend (preferred at the moment) or girlfriend, 25-40 or thereabouts, who is reasonably self-supporting or with a plan for achieving that; I don't really care if you are "successful", so long as you try your honest best in whatever you do and not let perceived failures get to you. Best also if you're open-minded, responsive to other people's needs, willing to go outside of your comfort zone for the sake of fun and learning, and not afraid to lovingly and respectfully challenge me, because I'm wrong. A lot. Heh. I will love it if you call me on my sh*t; just make sure you like the same! It'd be great if you are willing to commit random acts of kindness on the masses. Are you my "partner-in-crime"? If you might be interested in screwing up with me (note: not "screwing with me", heh), please let me know. Thanks! 8)

I do not really expect much to come of this, as online dating does not yield much success for me (probably cause I come off as a A-Hole).

Age: 28
Gender: Male
Job: USAF (No, I will not give you any more info beyond that.)
Current Location: United Kingdom (Born in the good 'ole USA)

Interests: Games, Cars, Guns, Cooking, Photography, Camping, Computers, Electronics, Board Games, Statistics, Skiing, SCUBA diving, Fishing, blah blah blah, more or less, I like many things and activitys.

Quick Quip about me: Yes I am honest, even though it is a social "fopah" (that spelled right?). So feel free to ask me questions, I'll answer 'em to best of my knowledge, provided I deme it ok to respond to (I'll respond to all inquires, what I repond with may not be what you want to hear).

Repost with a few tweaks,

Name: Stephen

Location: Melbourne, Australia.

Physical: 175cm, 84kg (about 6-7 of which shouldn't be there, meh), brown hair with blonde highlights, blue eyes. My avatar is accurate apart from the beard I now have

Education: Got through high school, tried a multimedia course at uni but had a breakdown in 2nd year, so dropped it. Went back to uni the next year and finished a Writing course in 3 years. Still like to learn though

Interests: music, indie video games, Taoism, cooking, AFL football, trivia, comedy, motorsport, Karate

Orientation: definitely straight and open to a little experimenting, but not into surprises. I like to consider things first

Religion: A Taoism believer but not much of a practitioner. Not really supportive of God/Jesus/a human-like deity - humans are people, and all people are flawed in some way (I know i am)

Politics: Don't care that much. only vote for what gives me the best deal, that's it.

Tv: motor sport, footy, the simpsons, mythbusters, top gear, good news week, some documentaries esp. WWII

Music: a split between electro/dance and rock, but probably a bit more eclectic than that. A good beat or guitar riff gets me hooked. fav bands include The Chemical Brothers, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, The Crystal Method, Kosheen, LCD Soundsystem, My Chemical Romance, Muse, Incubus, Editors, Eagles of Death Metal. Thinking of exploring some more classic rock and funk sounds in my future listening

Movies: sci-fi and action - pretty mainstream there - but also don't mind a good thriller, be it political or horror. Don't like the blood and guts horror though, makes me queasy. Prefer ones that mess with your head and perceptions.

Current plans: try and get a new job because I'm not happy with the one I have, become more social/outgoing because I feel isolated at present, and may move out of my current share house because the leaseholder is an aspie too and the other two i rarely see. not real lot of social interaction going on here, which is what i crave.

What I'm Seeking: someone 'different', as in different to me or has a unique, funny outlook on life. Someone who understands my situation and that I can make feel happy and loved. I am attracted to the 'Girl Next Door' type, but this is not an essential trait - All races, nationalities and personalities can be attractive in their own unique way

If you're interested, curious, and not repeat-erasing your Temporary Internet Files folder in fear/horror, feel free to PM. Cheers

It's spelled "faux pas".

...literally false (faux) pace (pas), "a step in the wrong direction" would be a good translation.

I would be surprised if anything happened after I posted but let's give this a try:

Name: Mariah
Gender: Female
Age: 17 (almost 18  )
Area: East Central Illinois, I'm generally looking for someone in Illinois or someone who's in a bordering state.

About Me: Hi, I'm Mariah and I'm a high school graduate to be (graduating in December of 2010). I live in an area where everyone loves the Fighting Illini! (orange and blue.. meh) but I generally do not like football. My favorite sports would probably be swimming and table tennis :P . My interests include reading, writing, poetry, cats (especially my kitty!), playing viola, art, and RPGs (I play World of Warcraft but I plan on quitting and I play Guildwars). As a person I tend to be pretty quiet, unless the person I'm talking to is someone I consider a good friend. People who I have dated in the past have said I was very clingy and it broke my heart when they left me, so if I'm being too clingy tell me you need some space and what is wrong before you break up with me. :(

Who I'm Looking For: I am generally looking for a male between the ages of 16 to 19 in Illinois or a bordering state to Illinois. I want someone who is a shoulder to lean on during tough times and a person who would actually listen to me. This guy I'm looking for needs to be pretty stable, in my past relationships I was always the one who was supporting the person I was dating and now I just can't do that anymore. Honesty is also a very important value in my life, I want someone who I can trust and who can trust me back (of course if no one trusted eachother then it wouldn't be a good relationship now wouldn't it?). I also want a guy who is sensitive and loving who can understand or try to understand what I'm going through, and also someone who is pretty masculine (I haven't found a guy who was masculine and sensitive lol).

Well if you're intrested in talking to me more you can always send me a PM :)

Needless to say, it feels a bit bizarre to be posting any sort of personal ad on the internet. However, I have become rather disgruntled in regard to the interested females whom I have been meeting as of late... so I figure I might as well have at it...

Physical:
Male
heterosexual
26 years old
5' 11_3/4"
170 lbs
Blue eyes

Location:
Upstate NY, USA

Job description: Research Assistant

Education: Bachellors, plan to pursue a doctorate in either philosophy or physics

Interests: My research, philosophy, theoretical science, reading, nature, solitude, music.

Substances:
Cafeine: yup!
Acohol: I relied on this for several years as a social analgetic, but have become disenchanted with it and seldom drink anymore.
tobacco: trying to quit
other substances: I stay away... I don't even take acetominophen or otc cold medication.

Misc.
I enjoy long walks, gardening, boating and being outside in general. I am fairly quiet, but tend to have deeply insightful things to say in conversation about things that matter (in contrast to superficial banter). I like people, but cannot be around them too much. I am a positive person in general and have a rather fatalistic outlook on life (Amor Fati). I am reasonably spiritual, but do not identify with any particular religious tradition (although I will say that I am most closely aligned with Transcendentalism). I am fairly flexible in regard to other people's needs, and not overly judgemental about most things (socially-constructed reality excluded). I am an avid reader, but mainly stick to non-fiction and classical literature. I would like a family someday, but am in no hurry. I am sure there is more, but I far from adroit when it comes to talking about myself.

EDIT: after reading my post, it appears that I am also quite fond of alliteration.

In the unlikely case that someone reads this and wants to take the awkward next step:

I am interested in someone who is similar to myself in interests and worldview, who is intellectually stimulating and doesn't mind listening to me rant from time to time, who respects my need for alone time, etc. I generally prefer women who are in shape physically (they don't need to be atheletes, just healthy). I am interested in women who are (broadly speaking) in my age group +/- 8 years.

Here goes...

The mods should have divvied this topic into states/countries/provinces, etc. Doubt anyone here would be willing to travel more than 25 miles to date/meet someone. ><

well it is kind of funny when supposedly intelligent people constantly point out and dwell on what they can't do or don't qualify for, tragicomicedic would be the best word actually. I mean your post above mine says it all, you weren't trying to be funny there?
