Because it is far-fetched :)

But remember not everything someone says is supposed to be taken as an honest truth or a cold lie.

How is it meant to be taken then?

What I'm trying to say is you're not meant to take everything so seriously when it is said. Like, if someone says "i can jump as high as a house" as a joke, you don't go "OMG YOU'RE LYING!! !! ! I CAN PROVE YOU'RE LYING!! !" or "omg...really? you can???" you just laugh if it's funny, or shrug it off if it isn't. What this guy did was make a silly and it was supposed to be taken as such.

Maybe, who knows! If he wasn't willing to share a serious answer, then who cares :)

He sounded more genuine due to his evident anger towards this woman

I'm single because I'm never around women. There are a few, older, married women at my work, but that's it. Since I mostly just go to work and come home, there's not much chance to meet women. At the hobby events I go to, only other guys show up so I just have zero opportunity. About every 2 or 3 years, I'll meet a woman and hit it off with only to learn that she's married or waaaaay too young.

It’s definitely so much easier when people, upon seeing you, know a relationship is, has always been and will always be an entirely alien concept to you, so they never ask such a silly question :)

The answer I was going to give has already been preempted by Fnord: #1, but I would add: " I've managed to avoid it so far, and have never had the inclination to change that.

Fnord wrote:
Q: "Why Are You Still Single?"

A: Because:

1. "I'm not married."

2. "The voices in my head tell me to wait."

3. "A FICO score below 780 just isn't going to pique my interest."

4. "I'm just lucky, I guess!"

5. "I'd rather have sex whenever I want it."

6. "I already have enough laundry to do, thank you."

7. "I'd have to forfeit my inheritance and title."

8. "I'm waiting for your son/daughter to turn 18."

9. "I'm waiting for your husband/wife to leave you."

10. "I'd rather do something meaningful with my life."

Disclaimer: Some of these are mine, and some I found through Google.

Never discount good luck.

I'm single because of my awkwardness is insanely bad to the point that it scares women away even aspies, as I found out recently :(

I'm single because apparently monologues lasting twenty minutes or more about how everything one will ever attempt will at one point fail and how this is actually a good thing don't make up such good pickup lines. But at least I tried. (Also, if I should ever succeed this way, it'll be the perfect match.)

Also because there's nobody near me who I could actually talk to on eye level. This may sound arrogant but it's also true in the other direction. Obviously.

I do find this question to be very offensive, and to be honest my answer would totally depend on my mood and the context to how the question came to being.

what I want to say: "So what if I am in my late 20's and single. At least I have highly specialized training, a college degree, several professional licenses and no anchors keeping me down, such as children or divorce filings. stupid b***h." CHECK PLEASE!

What I should say: "I've been busy with my career and my educational goals. Now that I've achieved those, my only hope is to share my success with a beautiful and caring woman for the rest of my days."
