None of the characters on 'The Big Bang' are fat (or have beards) and I'd say they're typical nerd types

The people that you see on TV are in fact actors.

I did know that, but they are portraying stereotypical nerds

Yes, but they're still the "friendly version". They're all clean-shaved, their clothes don't look that strange, they have professional haircuts, ...

What I love is the way when people explain what nerds and geeks are there's always the unspoken implication that they most certainly aren't one themself

I think the rule says (don't remember where exactly I heard it):
"Someone who tells everybody at a party how much of a nerd he is, is certainly not a nerd. If he was, he'd be at home reading a book or sitting in front of his computer."

I think jocks can be more accepting because they usually have a lower level of sophistication and intelligence. Which can be a good thing. White rich kids not only have a higher IQ, they have a high EQ as well and are ridiculously socially sophisticated in ways I could never be. Give me some macho gansters with an average to below-average IQ, and my social sophistication and theirs are pretty comparable. They are experts at reading people and avoiding B.S., as am I, but they still lack a level of class and sophistication, which I do also. Some of them are as pissed off at society as I (and probably a lot of people here) are, so there is something I and they often have in common.

So during those times I work out enough to fit int physically (definitely not at the moment, as I'm in school and going through some borderline and ptsd sh**), that can be a fairly good fit. I have learned quite a bit from having black male friends from the hood in years past. Learning boxing was a great hobby that made some good friends a few years ago.

This sounds kind of narcissistic but because of my condition I feel like I can only make friends with people of lower intelligence than myself. I thought graduate school would be wonderful because I'd be around super smart people I could relate to better, but that turned out not to be the case. I just couldn't relate or have any fun like I could in my undergraduate years. It's hard to find people who are both very intelligent and sophisticated in one way, yet extremely immature/silly and unsophisticated in another. That's the only kind of person I could relate to deeply. It's like being stuck in a no-mans land.

Exactly!

She would never be put into the nerd category in the first place

This only shows that the two terms are not mutually exclusive.

Nerds need sex as much as anyone else.

You're confirming the article's point, Pariah.
