people are nicer to me when i have a picture of myself as an avatar, though this new one is apparently a little scary lol. i think that using a photo is a reminder that you're talking to a human.
Scary? Really? Maybe a little intimidating, sure, but mostly it seems to give off the impression that you're smart...not that you aren't.
