There was a girl I was talking to last year...her name is Caroline. We met through a mutual friend, exchanged phone numbers, and I started visiting her at her apartment soon after. Every week, she'd invite me and another friend of hers to watch anime, and while I don't particularly care for anime, she was fun to be around. Quirky, friendly, always cheerful.
I never was completely sure if she had any interest in me. She liked giving me hugs, and had no problem sitting close to me. But she would become evasive when I finally asked her out.
The last time I saw her was on my birthday, during the summer. She was a senior at the University, and she was staying over the summer because she wanted to rewrite her honors thesis. She said she wasn't sure where she was going to grad school, so I held out hope she would stay.
A couple of weeks before the fall semester, I texted her and asked when she was leaving, she said she wasn't sure, and that she'd let me know. I asked her again a week later, and she said she was already in College Station. I never got the chance to see her off, and we haven't spoken since.
...I miss the hugs most of all.
