Sorry to hear about your family trouble sly. It’s interesting to go back & trace the dysfunctional behavior through the bloodlines. None of us exist in a vacuum. Our earliest relationships set the stage for what is to come, for better & worse.
Thoughts of what could of been. My biological dads dad abused him sexually too. His mom didn’t acknowledge her children wing abused. Everyone says my biological dad wasn’t bad before he started dealing and doing drugs, he worked used car dealership that also sold drugs.
I was abused too. I wouldn’t abuse others but like my brother I worry if it’s unescapebl pattern. I was abused by moms friends son though as I neber was around my biological dad.
What if his dad didn’t abuse didn’t cheat hadn’t run out with the companies millions of dollars. What if I’d green up in upper middle class family, taking trips to Europe etc. where would I be? I’d probably gotten a job at the company.
The biological dads dad actually tried to contact me on Facebook few years ago. He lives up in Washington near his older kids who he abused and they act like nothing happen and let him around their kids. Was he abused maybe? How long has that cycle of abuse gone on? Is it a dentures or th sowing year old cycle. While me and my brother aren’t a abusive, my younger half brother is. He was a drug kid, and tossed back and forth between his mom and my biological dad. He’s was institutionalized for years but now is back with his abusive raping dad, he apparently did some things too, so he may carry on the cycle. My dads mom is dying from cancer. I need to go see her but she abandoned me as a kid for being different m she sided with our biological dad and always tried to get us to forgive him. I haven’t had anything to do with her for 10 years or so what do I say when I visit her dying 0.o
If I ever get married I’d like to tske her name, remove the Schrader name fro. History as much as I can.

That sucks, Sly. You’ve done well having to deal with that. Please don’t beat yourself up. Working retail is a real job despite what you say.
Women say it’s not a real job. Men say it’s a job for teenagers. So I feel sad, digusted and embarrassed. I don’t have it listed on my Facebook like most people do.

I was screwed over and born being kind hearted and naive with a drive to help make people happy. I also respect animals including insects lives.
Childhood sexual abuse is devastating. It ruins people’s lives. But then to be Asperger as well is f****d. Good websites for survivors of sexual abuse are the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network: RAINN.org & 1in6.org, specifically for male survivors of sexual abuse. I hope you will feel better one day.

I really don’t see how everyone could possibly think it’s not a real job. Heaps of people work retail, and it’s not just high school kids and university students.
I help insects and plant and animal life, too. It’s the right way to be in my opinion. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Rags to riches stories are common because rags to rags doesn't make for a good story. Rags to riches is extremely possible but it's hardly probable.
Ordinary folks like me and many others here just don't have the stamina to be good students while working full time jobs. Fatigue makes for a poor student, at least in my case.
The prevalence of these stories combined with survivorship bias prevents society from dealing with the very real and measurable problem of the intergenerational poverty cycle.
Anyway, there may have been lots of doctors in your year but that's a very small sample size. I went to a craphole school too. Guess how many doctors were in my year. Go on. Guess.

No students work full time jobs. Unless it’s over the holidays. It’s normal for students to have part time jobs while studying.
It probably also comes down to your family’s values. My family is not rich, but they put a lot of emphasis on getting an education and getting a decent job, and being a hard worker. Either work for your money or have none. I guess it rubbed off on myself and my sister.
Some not rich families don’t give a crap about any values except drinking and getting knocked up, and getting government money. It’s no surprise their kids turn out to be the same.
Sly’s family probably has a lot to do with his situation.
When I got finished with my Associate's degree and applied to a 4-year university, I got turned down flat for any kind of financial aid. My parents couldn't afford it, so my only option wouldn't been to work as many hours as I possibly could. And, seeing as how I lived in an economically depressed rust-belt town, I doubt I would have ever found a job to pay me what would've been required.
I've tried several different paths, but most of them have lead to nought on account of my Asperger's and ADHD. Next September, I'll be attempting to finish my B.A., but it will only be an English degree, which isn't worth much. At one point, I tried a STEM education path, but I couldn't handle it.
Not everyone was born with the right components to achieve the modern definition of "success." Oh, and I've worked VERY hard in my life.

There are many people less fortunate than myself and I don't expect them to pull themselves out of poverty by their own bootstraps.
I used to be on welfare. For that I make no apologies. I used welfare as a launchpad for my current career. The second hand suit I wore to the job interview was bought using welfare money. I lived on welfare while I completed my IT certificate at TAFE.
If I had even been working part time, it would have been very difficult for me to get that certificate. I don't have unlimited energy.
If I had gone to that job interview without descent clothes, they might have turned me away.
If I thought the world doesn't owe me anything and never claimed welfare, I would still be unemployed.
So I disagree with people who say welfare should be eliminated so that unemployed will suddenly decide to get jobs. It doesn't work like that.
If someone is happy and well fed and well clothed and not worrying about how they're going to pay their overdue electricity bill, they can study effectively or they can ace a job interview.
So rather than telling the poor that if they work hard, everything will magical be ok, I would advise them to use welfare as a launchpad to a new career as I did.

Go ahead and pat yourself on the back for stealing others' hard earned money. Way to go.
I'm not even slightly sorry

That money allowed me to get the job which means I can put more back into the system than I took out.

I assume you paid for your college completely out of your own pocket and refused to accept any kind of financial aid from either the government or your parents?

They are. I got turned down. It's what lead me to enlist in the military.

I guess then they’re brutal about who they lend to. This would be a huge obstacle.

Honestly, in the U.S., the college industrial complex is more geared to helping affluent people.
Kids with middle-to-upper class parents have an easier time getting jobs post-graduation because of mommy and daddy's connections, which, in turn, artificially inflates the earnings of the college's alumni.
