Even the people who've understood me the best still regularly misunderstand me completely.

I guess it's kind of a matter of this constant baseline level of misunderstandings in the background for me.

It comes with the territory.

we live on the plane of illusions, even when one feels like they are on solid ground, they are not, and don't find out about it 'til much later.

Hopefully all this separation is its' own illusion.

you have an enlightened point there, separation from the love of the creator is indeed an illusion.

Quote:
Ages ago at school, I had this crush on this boy and he had a crush on me (I later found out). I lied at the time and said I fancied another boy, it really hurt the boy I had a crush on and he went distant and cut me out. Years later outside my college I saw my old crush smiling at me. I squinted at him because I was trying to see his eyes. I was flirting with my friend at the time and I walked right past my old crush. I was later told it looked like I was being a total b***h to him by squinting (giving him the evils) and flirting with my friend (trying to remind him of what happened at school and making him jealous).

I can't forget it and never will. I hate myself for it sometimes.

Who told you that you came off trying to make him jealous and giving the evils? Did the friend you were flirting with tell that? I'm wondering how perceptive the person who told you this really was and how well they understand what happened.

Anyway, it is pretty normal for anyone to distance when they discover that a crush is not attracted to them (or they believe their crush is not attracted to them). For many people it is too painful to witness the person they're attracted to interacting affectionately with someone else, so they would rather cut that person out of their life than risk exposing themselves to such pain.

Go easy on yourself. He likely isn't harboring any grudge against you, he was probably just trying to protect his own heart.

I wish I could make it more apparent how much she means to me regardless of painful misunderstandings like that.

You could tell her, even in very simple terms.

Something like,
"your friendship means a lot to me,"
"thank you for being there for me during those tough times,"
"I'm really glad that we are still friends,"
Or whatever applies more appropriately to your unique situation.

People can't always tell how another values them until it is made clear in words. Actions support those words, to be sure, but often actions alone can be confusing or muddled.

At least she knows that in my case, free tech support means I  you. I'm sure I'll get around to that & I suppose I more or less already did but I hope we find a nice time to be more expressive again.

Whatever applies in my unique situation usually consists of something I haven't thought of yet, so in that way I'm glad for the ridiculous amounts of spare time.

I'm glad you're doing better today.

It sounds like maybe your situation doesn't fluctuate much, but how you feel about it does?

I guess in general I tend to do better than a lot of single guys on here but it's not exactly stable being isolated as much as I am.

I'm having a love-hate relationship with this isolation... it's very strange.

I'd be drinking alone in my basement if not for my friends on the phone online. It's tedious but at least I can contribute to the biggest supercomputer in the world while I'm here doing nothing.

Also you guize. Yay internet. :D

It's weird to realize that the more time I spend apart from people, the more time all of us have to be more considerate.

I like being free of the obligation to keep up socially, the people I wish I were more in touch with already know I'm not great at that.

I'm more productive at great cost & none of us have any clue what's next.
