Said what? That not being a "lady" isn't a bad thing? I really don't see how conforming to societal pressures based on gender, to please others, somehow translates to a positive label in your mind.

I mean you already effectively said I'm not a "lady", so I'm assuming it's not that.

Most women--and any woman I'd have--consider it a compliment to be thought of as ladies. It's obvious you don't, and you are to be pitied.

The story goes thus:

--Boy meets girl

--Boy wins girl's heart by showing affection tempered with respect and a sense of fairness

--They live happily ever after.

As for the moral: This is the way it has worked since the Middle Ages. This is the way it will continue to work. And there is nothing you can do about it; you might as well fight the wind.

Happily ever after is a recent edition, is it not? Fairy tales are fictitious, and were very grim in their beginnings. Disney's whitewashing is for children, as were the originals--to scare them into compliance. She's not fighting the wind, and she's not reading bedtime stories, either.
