Misanthropy, at least to me, is like any kind of extreme / generalizing thinking one thing: lazy, and an excuse for being unwilling to accept or consider other people's views. Provoking people with extreme views is easy. Fitting into society while keeping true to your views, to what you believe in and to stay true to yourself, that is, in my oppinion, something that is both hard and worth accomplishing. This whole "Either you are XX or YY" is something for Sith and Jedi.
