As for the cake, it's called a vanilla slice and I have only seen them for sale in the UK. There is a bottom layer of flaky pastry, a thick layer of vanilla custard which has been allowed to solidify, a second layer of flaky pastry and then icing on the top. A good one will take you ten minutes to eat and you'll end up with sticky fingers.

A very popular cake here is called 'Mille-feuille' , it was brought by the French mandate. I googled Vanilla slice , it's the same cake.
However here make it like this one:
You can see the many layers, this is why it's called 'mille-feuille' (thousand papers)
in your pic I can't see the layers, it looks like as if it's made of 2 layers with only crème pâtissière (vanilla creme?) in between.
