I'd phrase that a little more carefully, though. :P

No kidding.

The best bet with relationships is to keep a little distance until they've reciprocated some of your feelings. Otherwise it's best to just keep some emotional distance, so it doesn't hurt too much if you get rejected.

That said, there's nothing wrong with a girl asking a guy on a date. It might have been a little awkward in the 1930s, but today, unless they have some major macho-man issues, it's not a big deal. Most guys, even if they're not interested, will find it flattering, so there's really nothing wrong with it. Even in the most probable worst case scenario, you've given a cute guy a much-needed ego boost.

Generally I am the initiator, I more than agree with you, in fact I always try to be the initiator on purpose because it increases my chances plus can often get me past misunderstandings etc. That being said, I don't want to be a stalker either ( ), thus why I wait for some reciprocation of interest before going in for the kill...

I would just say be yourself :)

Anyone who ends up dating you needs to be interested in the whole you, so there's no point trying to put a front on to impress the person.

I learnt that the hard way myself in the beginning. :)

Now my philosophy is this is me so like it or lump it :D
