Like it or not, those are the movies that put asses in seats. For whatever reason, that's the group most likely to actually buy a ticket and see the movie. It's not some conspiracy against women.

I didn't say it was a "conspiracy" or anything like that. I'm not even talking about having a bunch of girly movies tossed out or whatever.
I thought the Avengers did an admirable job of recognizing it's female/non het.male audience. The Hunger Games & Twilight, both franchises centered on women/girls do remarkably well.
And as far as "that's hat puts asses in the seats goes" that's not really fair. Studios are just starting to realize the money they an make when they target the black or female market. Things are are shifting in that and in the extra focus on international markets, which is all really interesting to watch.

It's not "bra burny feminist" of me to express a desire for more movies targeted at my demographic. That's normal.

cool that's not what I expressed a desire for then
getting than the customary 99% is not getting shunned, more movies having black characters isn't about "neglecting" white people

I apologize if I misinterpreted your beliefs on the subject.

But, to be honest, almost every post you make is about perceived injustices against women. Whether that's what the thread is about or not (this very thread being a perfect example). Either that, or arguing vehemently against any man who says "hey, we've got problems too."

Which makes it kinda hard not to see your attitudes as being anything other than anti-male. I don't claim to know your mind, or your motivations, or your attitudes toward men. All I have to go on is what you say. If you believe in anything other than a simplistic "women good/men bad" you've not shown that.

The Hunger Games is doing well because it has something that could appeal to both men and women. Two male friends of mine and myself have gone to see that movie a while ago. It's balanced - women have the romance and the emotional thing, and men have the fact that much of the movie consists of a good-looking woman walking around and getting people killed in an environment where people are murdering others and getting injured. The part with the little girl surprised me - I didn't even know it was acceptable to put that in a movie. It seems the Americans stepped off from the moralistic Hollywood theme where everything ends up acceptable as only grown men are hurt.

That's just my view on the matter. :)

Did you even read the book?

I dunno about Twilight and The Hunger Games, but Romcoms do really well too and are targeted to women.

They have the romance and emotional thing that women like.

Anyways, I hate those kinds of movies that play on women wanting the perfect man and perfect love life. Guess it says something about the women who do go and see movies? I'm sure there is a better option.

But I prefer actions and dark comedies.

Keanu Reeves is good-looking and he's also very famous and that is why women are crazy about him.

But if you ask me, I think Leonardo DeCaprio and Tom Welling are even better looking. Leonardo DeCaprio looked so handsome when he played in Romeo & Juliet and in Titanic

No. My sister has the book, so I could read it if you insist it's that much better. What I wanted to show, though, is that the main actress looks very attractive, and combining that with a lot of simple, visual murder and a dystopian society is something that traditionally appeals to the young male crowd. I felt a bit guilty about finding the actress attractive who played a sixteen-year-old, but she's almost 22, and I'm slightly younger than her, so it's alright.

Your 17, there is nothing wrong with liking a 16 year old. I just thought your opinion was kind of odd, as in there was no way you would have worded it how you did if you had read the book.

It's just me, I guess. I find a lot if these "hot" actors have NO acting chops. I'm, of course, referring to Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and the absolute worst offender of all, Johnny Depp. No chops whatsoever!

C'mon, they're all good actors. They didn't pass hollywood just because they're good looking.

You obviously don't know much about Hollywood (or acting)

I don't find very many guys attractive in today's world.

I used to like him but I don't now. He seems like he's got no personality.

I'm not seventeen - I'm a bit older than that. But yes, that explains a lot.
