Have you ever been judged by your political beliefs?

There is a lot of research relating personality variables to political beliefs. I would never date a conservative ever again... I prefer the openness, flexibililty of thought, compassion and intellectual curiosity that is more evident among liberals. I've found conservatives fearful in general, resistant to change, rigid in thought, more traditional. Political beliefs are now one of my deal breakers, because compatibility in the long term depends mostly on personality characteristics. Political beliefs are a sign of these.
To restrict your choice of partner to someone with similar/the same political values does not strike me as a sign of intellectual curiosity - quite the opposite in fact.
Well, you know us conservatives know that liberals are largely irrational beings *holds up sarcasm sign*
Also, I suspect that liberal women prefer liberal men because liberal men let women dominate them. *holds up even bigger sarcasm sign*
I'm afraid my aspie non understanding of sarcasm has just kicked in so you'll have to translate
- I honestly haven't got a clue what the point is that you're trying to make. I'm neither liberal or conservative btw. You're correct on the dominating thing though - it's generally my way or the highway.

The sarcasm 1 was in regards to how the person you quoted cited a whole range of stereotypes that lead him or her to disqualify all conservatives from the "dating pool" based on what must be a small sample size and definitely affected by cognitive bias.
The second one got the sarcasm tag, because I know I'd get in trouble for posting something like "all liberal men let their woman dominate them" whereas the person you quoted wouldn't even make anyone flinch with a paragraph full of conservative/right wing stereotypes.

Oh
I generally prefer people who don't follow any particular party line. My opinions are more issues than politics-based though I don't have much time for most politicians as it seems to be all about self-advancement these days.

Just a reminder that you arent currently posting at the politics section.
Also anyone is welcome to post their own opinion on what someone else has posted as long as it isnt a personal attack(hey I think you are mistaken because of x, y ,z is okay. Are you mentally challenged? is not okay)

Who is this aimed at? I haven't seen anyone say anything overtly insulting in this thread.

This is aimed at the one who claimed that he couldnt discuss an issue because it´d get deleted.

Life's far more complex than left or right. Stalin was the ultimate left-winger so what does that tell you?

Not really, he had much more in common with fascist leaders than with left wing ideology (I would define the farthest left as anarchism, not communism), but he labeled himself as a leftist. That just goes to show the weakness of the left-right terminology, because there are a million definitions of what is right an what is left.

I'd say Communism is ultimate the left wingedness as it still has an actual structure; anarchism is the total breakdown of everything and would logically entail survival of the fittest, which seems pretty non-democratic to me. It's 'whatever's being done now, I'm against it', almost like an atheism of politics.
Btw is that Ian McKellan on your avatar photo?

Not so much due to mods as due to the crowd with pitchforks.

A. Anarchy is the breakdown of everything. Anarchism is a political philosophy based on the idea that coercion is immoral; there are capitalist and socialist/communist/cooperative versions, and I'm thinking of the latter, which is more popular, as my definition for far left. The philosophy is that both political decisions and business/economic decisions should be made democratically, and at the most local level possible. There is a lot of overlap with both libertarianism and socialism. It's really fascinating to study.
B. Yeah, it is. He's one of my favorite actors. I don't know how young he was or what play it's from, but his absolute disinterest in the girl and seeming detachment from the world intrigues me.

You do know he's gay?

As am I.
But he's a good enough actor that his characters aren't gay unless their meant to be, so there's got to be a deeper reason than that for his odd expression.
His expression depends on the plot of the film/play I suppose
I've never seen a photo of him as a young man before or seen
him in any films when young. He only seems to have broken into Hollywood in older age.
