That can easily be applied to males, too.

Why does it have to be gender-specific?

There is a very good reason.

My whole question started from an okcupid question. My okcupid profile says I am interested in "girls who like guys". They don't have an option "women who like guys" or "women who like men" o whatever.

There are reasons to separate the sexes, too. Just trying to decide what is a good word.

In that case, I think the normative response would be "women who like men". The use of "girls" on a dating website is gross.

girls who likes guys is actually sexist..since guys is considered a more respectful term than girls. boys would be equal o girls. Id the female equivalent to guys..probably gals..which is lame.

Since online dating sites legally require you to be AT LEAST 18 years old to join(a legal adult), it kinda goes without saying that use of the term "girls" in such a place does not refer to children. Anyhow, get over it.

What about the terms "boyfriend" and "girlfriend"?

Tell me something I didn't know. Doesn't make it any less gross in my opinion.

AspieRogue: "Get over it" is a rude response. If they find it offensive or demeaning, that is up to them and we should listen.

AProudHillbilly: What exactly does "Meow" mean in this situation? It made laugh, actually, but I don't know if I was supposed to.

It's a ridiculous response to their "get over it" comment. It was funny to me when I wrote it, so the fact that it makes you laugh, too, is just a bonus.

I personally would say anyone female from age 15 or 16 (neurotypically developing) is a woman, though youths say "girl" as a slang term for women of any age.

I say woman as a general term, lady for an honorable woman, and b*tch/ho as a derogatory term.

Once someone reaches 18 they are an adult, and are therefore a man or a woman. (in my country anyway)

If you would feel odd calling a 25 year old male a boy, then it is the same for a female being called a girl. That's how I see it anyway. Calling a fully grown adult by a term used for a child seems demeaning to me.

mv I was called Madam the other day, and it made me shudder. I'll be too young for that until I'm 80.
