China enacted and enforced a One-Child Policy in 1979.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-child_policy

The one child policy, a part of the family planning policy, was a population planning policy of China. It was introduced in 1979 and began to be formally phased out in 2015. The policy allowed many exceptions and ethnic minorities were exempt.

I do think that genetic engineering of babies is a good thing.

Genetically modified humans....cool!

I dunno. If smoking and drinking causes birth defects, what would some scientist's "guesswork" wrought?

Aldous Huxley had something interesting to say about this subject.

While I definitely think there are some people who shouldn't have kids, I don't think it should be legislated. It would be in as much violation of right to choose as trying to restrict abortion.

I think that respect for the sanctity of human life has been going down the toilet in Canada since 1969. It's been going down the toilet in Europe since the days of Nazi Germany and it's been going down the toilet in America since 1973. I also think it's been going down the toilet in Asia for centuries.

No, society should just ensure people have access to birth control and safe abortion if they so choose.

Exactly I think it needs to be a choice, it is just as wrong to force people not to have children as it is to force them to have them. I mean I could see someone who is a child abuser having it legally mandated that they should not have children but in general no I don't agree with that.

I certainly wouldn't mind to genetically modify an embryo to make him/her grow into a handsome/beautiful, healthy, NT, smart and tall person - this person will be much happier in life.

And I am not against selective mating ....allowing only the good genes to continue (yes for example I don't think allowing people with Down Syndrome to procreate is ethical for instance), other species have been doing it instinctively since...well...ever since life crawled on this planet.

But, wouldn't we be trusting the same "sciency" people who brought us a spectacular destruction of the Mars Surveyor '98 program's ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Surv ... 98_program ) Mars Climate Orbiter and Mars Polar Lander in 1999 because they had miscalculated the simple mathematics required to succeed?

As the population became smarter and better looking their ideas of attractiveness and intelligence would change because it is human nature to be competitive. What would be considered tallish now would then be considered below average, then too short. When the average IQ is 150, everyone under 120 will be classed as having a low IQ. If everyone was NT then weird behaviour would be (it's no good I can't think of anything because I don't notice what normal people do or don't do, but it would be REALLY BORING :D )

Limiting the gene pool will mean us being wiped out by super-bugs but maybe that would be an improvement. Who are we to say they wouldn't do a better job of running things :D

You know that your species have been genetically modified via domestication and selective mating, don't you? :pig:

Exactly if not for that interference I would be a dangerous wild boar (sow) instead of a cute little piggy :(
