Even more than earlier seasons it seems they're going for highly extroverted and rather low functioning individuals instead of actually showing the "spectrum" as the title might suggest. I liked the old guy the best.

Maybe because lower functioning individuals are more likely to struggle with dating.

Iv'e noticed that most of the people on the show are average/below average looking in appearance. Which makes sense because good looking high functioning individuals are less likely to struggle with dating, hence why would they need help?

This could be the case for women perhaps, but more of a percentage of women it seems will not want to date a guy who they feel will be more challenging mentally, just because he is goodlooking, but perhaps I am wrong :).

The females on the show are actually quite functional/better looking than the males I notice.

That's interesting. Are more autistic women accepting of NT partners than the other way around therefore?

There's also a higher demand for single women from NT men so that means NT males are more tolerant about "quirkiness" in a partner than NT females.

Oh really? It seems that it's the opposite with people I know the community and that NT males are more forgiving of a female partner being ASD, than the other way around, if that is what you meant?

They're trying to use people's disability as a source of comedy.

It's such an incredibly specific thing to make a show about for it not to be bear baiting.

That may be the case. However, the free publicity might benefit the participants who might get fan mail from admirers who might want to date them.

That may just reflect the people that the showrunners have picked to be on the show.

The US has a bias against displaying women who *aren't* a certain standard of appearance.

I don't know what Steve's job is, but he seriously needs to get into a career as a voiceover artist and/or reading audiobooks.
His voice is so good.

This season was alright, but seemed awfully scripted in places. I probably had the same complaints with the other show...which we started watching Season 2, can't remember if we finished it...

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about that...
Like, people laugh at me a lot, but I'm cool with it...most of the time I do or say ridiculous things intentionally for a laugh.
It does seem kind of mean in this show at times, but I have a feeling the producer, who is always staring at squirrels or bees, might also be on the spectrum, and it's more of a "laughing with" than a "laughing at"? But I'm sure most viewers would rather "laugh at" =/
I don't know.

IKR? I could listen to him talk all night. His voice is amazing. Plus, his jokes and puns crack me up. He's my favorite cast member.

Has there ever been anything serious or any wrong turns on the show, like a really ugly break up, unwanted pregnancy, etc?

IMO the worst thing was the Michael/Heather thing from S2 but that didn't completely play out in front of the camera.

As I remember, in S1/S2 (Australia) there were no lasting male/female relationships formed apart from those that were previously established. Only the gay participants found lasting relationships. But keep in mind that the harshest criticisms of the US version have focused on "lack of representation".

I would hope there will be Canadian and a British Isles version (would include Ireland). Those places have a bigger population than Australia. Well I guess if you don't like the show then you won't think that.

Yeah, I was surprised that no one on the US version was gay. They even went to San Francisco for Steve, and he was hetero. *shrug*

Oh that's interesting. Is there any reason why the gay relationships have more of a chance of lasting compared to the straight ones?

Could be just a coincidence. The US version had a couple hetero couples who made it through the whole season (but after that, who knows?)
