Girls are bought up and conditioned to be nice, thats all. When I was growing up - it was don't do this or don't do that or it will upset him. It was always about how men felt and how to act around them - BS.

I have had great difficulty being assertive around men because of that and being sexually abused.

I'm sorry you've had to put up with that nonsense. Just goes to show there's still a lot that's wrong with our culture.

Yes and the girls that have difficulty asserting or acting too nice because of a lack of confidence get labelled as being a slut.

My mother is an assertive woman, and she has taken a lot of crap for it, especially in places where the population is ignorant and still holds pretty backward views about gender. I just wish people would stop trying to justify these views with BS pseudo-science which claims that men are supposed to be "dominant" and women are supposed to be "submissive."

That sucks..... I cannot think that I have ever called a girl a slut, either to her face or behind her back.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere that estrogen in females leads to the power-seeking behavior that testosterone leads to in men.

After consulting a dictionary and seeing how many different things nice can mean, there must be some girls that are nice. Adjectives can be a pretty messy thing to apply to a person, but at times people's behaviors would match.

nice   [nahys]
–adjective, nic⋅er, nic⋅est.
1. pleasing; agreeable; delightful: a nice visit.
2. amiably pleasant; kind: They are always nice to strangers.
3. characterized by, showing, or requiring great accuracy, precision, skill, tact, care, or delicacy: nice workmanship; a nice shot; a nice handling of a crisis.
4. showing or indicating very small differences; minutely accurate, as instruments: a job that requires nice measurements.
5. minute, fine, or subtle: a nice distinction.
6. having or showing delicate, accurate perception: a nice sense of color.
7. refined in manners, language, etc.: Nice people wouldn't do such things.
8. virtuous; respectable; decorous: a nice girl.
9. suitable or proper: That was not a nice remark.
10. carefully neat in dress, habits, etc.
11. (esp. of food) dainty or delicate.
12. having fastidious, finicky, or fussy tastes: They're much too nice in their dining habits to enjoy an outdoor barbecue.
13. Obsolete. coy, shy, or reluctant.
14. Obsolete. unimportant; trivial.
15. Obsolete. wanton.

My dad had a saying that went something like:

"Good girls go to Heaven, bad girls go to Hell, and nice girls go everywhere else!"

Somehow, it's one of the few things he said that actually makes some sense in the Real World.
