I think he's an all right guy who has a distorted view of himself.

He also has to get a bit of a thicker skin, and acquire more confidence in his viewpoints---stick to his guns, without necessarily having to justify himself in internet forums. The only people he has to justify himself to are his family, his family--and, to some extent, his employer.
