You certainly have been, and you haven’t been condescending.

I think it’s important to demonstrate how many variables there are which can make dating a challenge for some women, especially when posters claim, as they’ve done in this and recently locked threads, that it’s easier for women or even that one should take their stated problems “with a grain of salt.”

I think these posters don't realize it's easier for women to find sex and dates if they want guys who are not discerning or unethical. It is not easier for women to find sex and dates they want.

Does this mean that guys are turning down the opportunities to loose their virginity because they can't get a woman they want enough?

There are MANY potential reasons. Every person is different.

This is certainly the reason for some people. I’ve known some guys who were in this situation.

But wouldn't a lot of guys who are virgins eventually give in and realize maybe in some cases, beggers cannot be choosers?

Sure, a lot would, but that’s not ALL people. You can’t reduce this to a primary cause because there are lots of reasons.

I wasn't one of them. My first girlfriend* at age 18 was the least attractive girl I dated, and even so, I was very grateful to have met her. Looks weren't a priority for me at all, as I was ugly and had no car myself. My priorities were her liking me for my personality, and her not caring that I didn't have a car. She did fine in these areas, but failed miserably in being a good girlfriend. She was always busy with her studies and her job, vetoed most of the things I planned for our dates, and was very stingy with physical affection.

The woman who ended up taking my virginity was among the top 10 escorts in my city. My Chad friend even complimented me. Her only downside was that she didn't allow French kissing. (Which I had already done for free back then, so I just dealt with it.)

-------------
* The usage of the word "girlfriend" here is retroactive, since that's what I thought of her as. In reality, she was simply the first girl I dated, if that.

Still, I get the sense some of the women here find the fact that men answered the question annoying. This is excluding the fact the thread went on a random derail.

That’s not true…at all. We had a problem with specific, obviously sexist comments (some of which broke the rules), not the gender of the posters themselves.

Oh okay. I thought that women have it easier at getting sex, based on my female friends who have joined dating sites, and then said guys sent them all sorts of sexual messages and pictures of their 'butternut squashes'. So I thought women had it easier to get sex based on the ones I know and the attention they got online, compared to men. Not sure about dating though.

So you think that the experience of a couple of women that you know personally reflects the experience of all women?

Do you reflect the experiences and knowledge of all women?

Nope, I never claimed that I did.

Why has this thread taken such a heavy slant towards sexual violence? It just a topic that keeps going on and on and on here.

I can't help but get the feeling that the women here are trying to speak for all women and trying to dominate the thread in doing so.

It took a heavy slant toward reality, because a few of the male posters kept asking why dating might be difficult for women.
Someone suggested the only thing women had to worry about was "being rejected by Chads", which was laughable.

The original topic from Jamesy was whether and how a woman can spot a virgin man.
That was a question which women should be answering, not men.
That's why women came to this thread.

Men went off topic to talk about their loneliness and frustration as virgins, including three men (Aspie1, ironpony, and Nades), who aren't even virgins. They were veering off topic from Jamesy's question, so the women who were here to answer Jamesy's question started answering yours as well.

I'm sorry you find the topic of sexual assault and violence against women to be a downer.
I'm not a fan of it either and that's why we spoke up.

Given the rude tone of some of the earlier posts ("stick your wang in her ... lie to her ... deceive her ...") and the assertions that men were making on women's behalf (..."you can get sex whenever you want it" ...), it was important to protect women's sexual safety and set the record straight.

Sorry to rain on your parade, or Jamesy's.

If I knew how to circle things on a picture, I'd point out the high number of these risk factors I've seen happening in this thread, and around L&D in general.

Edit:
I figured out how to circle. Here's a sample of behaviours I've seen and experienced personally, on Wrong Planet. Some but not all of it can be seen in this thread. I know many other members who have witnessed similar sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and stalking either on the forum, or in Private Message from fellow members. There could be more going on that I'm not even aware of.

Thanks to Alex, Cornflake, and our mod teams past and present for helping to keep WP a safer place for all.

Oh it's just that even though I'm not a virgin, I use to be and it took a lot of practice for to attract a woman to loose it, so I just felt the struggle to be relate-able to talk about still.

Everybody was a virgin at one time....even "Chads."

The whole point: the "search" to lose one's virginity shouldn't be an active quest. It makes it seem like you're not considering the personhood of those you want to "lose your virginity" with. It also makes you seem like a high school kid.

It doesn't make you a lesser person if you happen to be a virgin in adulthood. It might actually be of benefit, since you were not in a position to make someone pregnant, or get pregnant with an unwanted child.

You don't have to tell a perspective sexual partner that you're a virgin.

And this is true, in my experience. QUALITY counts much more than QUANTITY. I'm lucky my "first time" was decent. But, many times, people's "first times" aren't so decent.

I’m in learning support, but I have had some autistic students. Most of my kids have learning disabilities and need help with reading and/or math.

I’m thinking about moving to autism support. I have subbed a lot in those classrooms. They’ve been either great or awful. It depends on the teacher.

I was kinda surprised by your choice of profession; teaching is a very social people-oriented one; especially with little kids.
