In Mandarin I think it sounds too direct. I would go with 你的发型/衣服真好看 (your hair/clothes look good). If they are not interested in you romantically, it's still an acceptable compliment from anyone (male or female). If not I guess they would be happy to talk more.

Really? Maybe in the context of the U.S. At least in parts of China, this seemed common and not even necessarily hitting on someone, right?

I always heard 你是帅 (often ends in "ge" but can't type Chinese on here, so...).

Not sure what "affectionately aggressive" means. I stayed in 沉阳 for a year and a half and don't know what that is. There were lots of stereotypical shy Asian girls, but then, up north, there were some girls who were quite like Western/Russian girls in appearance and personality, even if they didn't speak English. I loved the super tall (6'0), aggressive ones who were part Russian.

*waves* I'm an Asian girl, haha (Although I grew up in a relatively American household and have been living in England for the past 6 years)
Most Asian girls tend to have this fantasy of marrying a tall and buff caucasian and having cute babies. Bleh.
Other than looks it's usually the sense of humour that they like.

I'm 5ft6 and I'm usually the tallest girl around back in Hong Kong, so to them you're probably pretty tall. Most girls are like 5ft to 5ft3.

I don't have Chinese installed here so can't type it, but actually, ai4/"love" is a weaker term in China than it is here. It would be the equivalent of "like."

"Like"/xi3 huan is an even weaker term. And girls/guys who have nothing going on use it all the time.

I once had a Chinese girl ask me "你爱我吗"? after one week of dating. I freaked out till I learned my Chinese guy friend who was dating a Russian girl asked her the same thing after 2 dates, and she freaked out. The Russian girl and I had a discussion about it and concluded it was a cultural difference between China and most Western nations.

No, these are stupid generalizations. You don't have any source to back this up.
Second, you can be South American and Asian at the same time.

With different cultures there are, however, predictable patterns. Anyway, ABC's and other native-born Asian girls are a bad choice in many cases. The recent immigrants can be pretty nice, quiet, and sweet--also, interestingly, often socially awkward even within their home cultures where being shy and innocent can be prized. Seems to be inherently aspie-compatible as long as you're decent-looking, employed, and relatively functional.

As a nontraditional/non-NT guy, you want either girls who are extremely shy and passive or raging feminists who will take control of the relationship. Anything in-between will not work. Dating Asian girls is a good way to get the former.
