You can probably ask her if she's single, over MSN. Asking her out on a date is better in person. It looks more sincere.

MSN is a good way to find out more about her. A date request should always be done in person though.

So I chickened out and didn't ask her out after all. I sat beside her all through class, but when we walked out it was dark and raining and not the ideal time to ask someone out on a date, plus I am not feeling in the right mood either.

Dark and raining is a very good time to ask somebody out on a date. It goes like this:

you:" Do you want to go somewhere to get out of the rain? There's that nice coffee shop on the next block. We could go in there till the rain lets up a bit."

Whereupon she either agrees to go to this coffee shop (or whatever dry public place is closest) or she doesn't.

Yes a missed opportunity so remember that for next time. We never said there wouldn't be any mistakes. Remember if she does say no you want to remain cool and confident. What you want to do is smile and say "Okay, I'm going to get some coffee, maybe next time. Have a good day." and then confidently head off to your destination. When she sees that her saying no does not bother you that will indicate confidence and THAT is what most women are attrected to. The next time she might be more inclined to say yes but maybe not. Again you need to look at it as a learning experience. The next girl that comes along, it will be easier to ask her. Practice builds competence and competence builds confidence.
