I've never really been really into what women and men consider attractive mainstream wise so it's hard for me to know if I really fit in or not.

I'm not sure if I could ever voice my thoughts accurately but I've been attracted to men with many body types including men who are overweight....not because they were overweight though. I'm not sure what "it" is but it's defintely not about their money. I think part of it is personality and the other part I'm mainly attracted to is the face...sharp eyes and features. Other than that, it's hard to say. I think I have more of an attraction to men who are a bit effeminate or have a strong nurturing side.

Sharp eyes -- maybe intelligent eyes? Some women really like smart guys.

ditto.

note... i'm not talking about creating dreadlocks out of a man's chest hair or sticking Silly Putty in it! but gently ruffling it can be pleasant for both parties.

Funny post...in high school I remember going to Wet N Wild with my girlfriends and all of them talking about "hot" guys, with "hot" muscular bodies, blah, blah...while I drooled over guys with a nice, strong jaw/chin...hehe...and of course, a hairy chest...and that darn hairy chest thing has been something I liked since I was in about 8th grade! ahhh...

My ex-husband was not muscular and actually a bit on the fat side after a few years of marriage...but had no hair on his chest...sometimes he'd actually SHAVE the 3 hairs he had because he hoped it would grow more so that I would like him more...yuck...sigh...he was still an idiot...

Anyway, my current husband is super hairy...I don't particularly like hairy BACKS...that, well, not my thing...but hairy chest, arms, legs, etc...love it...

As far as the body thing? My husband is trying to get "fit" again and I keep telling him to slow down cause honestly, I am not really attracted to that at all..he thinks I'm lying because "don't ALL girls like muscular guys?".sigh...when I met him he was on the skinny side, and had SOME muscles, but not muscular by any means...I hate muscular guys...now he's huggable...and I love it...even my 6th grade crush had a pouch...hehe...

Either one would be ok with me but I'd draw the line at athlete.ru guy.

I'm more likely to think Speedo guy

a) Won't want much to do with me, and
b) Is more likely to cheat.

So I'd feel more comfortable with hairy chest guy in a relationship.

And as for athlete.ru guy.....honestly his testicles are probably so atrophied from all of those steroids, and he's probably so absorbed in himself, what does he want with a woman?

I prefer men with a bit more fat and less muscles. A very muscular man (of appearance) to me will make me judge him as vain. Grimm does not want a vain man. -____- It would pressure me too much - 'd make me think that I had to get myself a "perfect" body. Also... too visible muscles... it's just... not very manly. I like my men imperfect. 8)

Great thread, I always like to hear feedback about individual tastes RE: what women like in men.

Any chance that one of the (maybe subconscious) reasons why a lot of women shy away from the muscle-bound type is that there is a worry that he is too much in demand, much like how guys might shy away from a girl who is too pretty because they worry that she is either out of their league or in too much demand already? I had a GF that didn't want me to get too fit because "sluts would start throwing themselves" at me.

The other thought -- (some) young women do seem to like the muscle-bound guy, but tastes change over time. Muscle guy starts looking more like a bonehead, and less like a provider you can have chidren with... Meanwhile for young women, not as much experience, so they go for what is visible, e.g., muscle and fitness.

Can't speak for others, but not for me.

I think my upbringing has something to do with it. The only man in my life was my dad for so many ears, so i've grown to expect thats the norm of what men should be like. (It isn't, he is very tall and very large built) more a psychological thing really.

I don't care about being a provider or the guy looking like a bonehead, I'm just not physically attracted to small men. (Like the picture at the top)

that's a good question. it may be true, i'm not sure. i married a man who is very much 'in demand', and he always has been, and it got/gets on my nerves to have girls trying to get him in bed. he was not muscular though - he has always been thin. but he has a certain charm and is attractive to girls. i used to get very jealous!

one reason i am not especially drawn to muscular guys is because they scare me a little. some women feel protected by strong men, but i feel kind of intimidated. i don't like feeling that way, though i know that a muscular man is no more likely to be aggressive than a thinner or softer man. my husband is a lot stronger than me, but he is not imposing. i guess it's the idea that a muscular man is intentionally cultivating a powerful self, and it makes me nervous.

Well, I find both photos in the original post very unattractive, but I find the second one even more unattractive. That said, I don't think it's abnormal for a female to like male bodies that are not toned. I have heard women say they think chubby men are cute often enough. I do not share these feelings, but I like skinny, scrawny men, and I find the muscular, toned look highly unattractive.
