So, let's suppose there is a girl interested in you, but you can't really engage in a conversation with her because you are too busy working. Would it be a good idea to simply ask her name and phone number, along with something like "you seem to be an interesting person and I would like to chat later". Is that a good way to hit on her? Consider also the fact that she is always accompanied by her mother (I heard women tend to be harder to get when they are accompanied by friends. I wonder if the same is true for relatives).

P.S.: No, it's not that girl who invited me for lunch. This one has been going on for some months now (actually, I've seen her about four times, but she tends to appear after a few months, always showing signs of interest like the ones described by emlion early in the thread).

P.P.S.: Sorry for hijacking the thread. But it's too convenient for me to let it slip.

I think that would be pretty charming, actually, unless it was followed by a speech. ;)

I would melt into a little puddle of happy goo if a man said that to me! I'm a major chem geek...

Really? :D

That's really surprising, most women seem to prefer the crystalline forms of quartz...

I'm not a chem geek so I had to google myself up to speed on this whole cryptocrystalline quartz v. crystalline quartz issue. I have to say, I'd love to have something that looks this beautiful as jewelry:

That's lace agate, and you're right, it would make a beautiful cabochon.

Kind of funny, I've was looking for that recently at a hard-to-get-to site in the Cady mountains. I'm planning to give it another go in the next month or so, but the material is more of a red variety I think.

I'll send you a cabochon if I have any luck  I give away most of my stuff away...

Gawd! Don't get me started! You'll be sorry...

I still got it wrong what a cryptocrystalline quartz is? Sheesh. I've got a lot more learning to do here!

No! You're doing just fine! Agate is a form of cryptocrystalline quartz, it's all SiO4 (quartz) chemically, it just looks different based on the way it's formed and the elements it's associated with. Jasper and chalcedony are also in this group, I find lots of those forms too...

At least I've got knowledge on something that's actually useful too - otherwise I'd be in huge trouble...

Awww, Grisha, I think *all* knowledge is useful...

I could talk crystalline pack structure all day. At least I could, back in my college days...

Grisha, you seem to have all the qualifications except the right approach.

I tell you in all seriousness to buy a thumping big motorcycle. A Harley Davidson, not a Honda.

Then swagger into bars and parties and clubs wearing jack boots, leather pants and a leather jacket.
Stand in the corner and sneer at everyone like you were Elvis or James Dean or Clint Eastwood.

Girls go crazy for "bad boys" and when they find out that you are a bad boy with money and intelligence as well, you will have to beat them off with a stick.

I'd like to speak for the majority of straight women when I say button-fly jeans instead of leather pants.

I agree with the "bad boy" thing, but in the scenario you described I'd look like one of the "Village People"

Back when my husband and I were dating, we had a casual date set up. He wore black harley davidson boots, button-fly blue jeans, an Orange County Choppers Fire Bike t-shirt (from that TLC show where the family makes all those custom motorcycles) and a black and silver grommet belt. He had a goatee and his short hair was styled back. He was friggin' hot. Totally took my breath away.

So take Wombat's suggestion (it's an awesome suggestion) and make it your own. You ought to do well.

Have them, probably 10 pairs, different cuts, colors, and finishes.

My walk in closet is exploding with clothes, if I like a shirt, I'll buy every color on the rack rather than decide on one. Not kidding.

I was at a Christmas party last month and a woman asked me in all seriousness if I had hired a professional shopper. I get compliments on my clothes all the time.

I also have an infallible gay hairstylist, so I have that base covered too.

This is something I have control over, so I try to do the very best that I can, I usually like the way I look, even if it doesn't seem to impress women all that much...

Okay. I'm not going to argue the point because you obviously spend a lot of money to feel satisfied with your look. I am just supporting Wombat's advice to rough up your look a bit to give yourself some edge. From my own personal experience, I know it works. My husband didn't have a gay stylist or an ample wardrobe but he got me just the same.

Don't get me wrong, you're suggestion is awesome, I just don't think I can pull it off.

I tend to dress more like indie musicians, more my style I think...
