If prostitution was legal, these woman and even their clients would be getting medical check ups and woman would be treated a lot better. It isn't renting a human.

Its paying for a service.

It's quite strictly regulated in Nevada. From what I am reading it very regulated in some European countries where it is legal.....in others it's legal and not regulated at all....... weird.

I disagree. Its this kind of thinking that stuff like the Holocaust happens. I could say more on this topic, but thats all I'm gonna say for now.

taken to an extreme sure, but we're talking about a little slap and tickle not genocide.

Ok, but I wasn't talking specifically about prostitution. I was talking about how you said morality is subjective. Morality includes a wide spectrum of things including murder.

It just seems so...Victorian sometimes.

To always sensor people's choices. To always be political correct. It feels almost Victorian thinking sometimes.

well to clarify, i WAS speaking about prostitution.

However; morality is subjective in general. We were all raised with the morals instilled into us by our family, friends, churches etc. It doesn't mean I'm condoning genocide. It's an observation. And it's not that kind of thinking that allowed the holocaust. lol There were a few other factors.

It's not a bad idea... I mean it's taxable revenue and let's face it, the US deficit needs cleaning up, between prostitution and the legalization of marijuana, we might make a dent in it.

I'm going to regret voicing that opinion.

That depends. Is she an average-looking prostitute?

Oh, ApsieGuy. People are against prostitution because it's degrading sex from an act of love and mutual enjoyment into women becoming property via male privilege, to sell their bodies for male enjoyment as a means to afford a life - which ought to be obtainable through equal opportunities for education and employment. It's a social thing. It's also a religious thing but there's so many people on this forum who are too closed-minded to religion that those reasons aren't worth bringing up.

But there are places where the industry is both legal and regulated. These places are probably the least likely places to contract a STD and the most likely places for a man to just get his freak on without judgment.

Live and let live.

Yes, its true that we all disagree on certain aspects of morality but that doesn't make it subjective. What if someone said "Well, I disagree that genocide is wrong"?

There have been several who have espoused that opinion. (your example Hitler for one) The rest of us take measure to prevent or stop that behavior.
Whether or not morality is subjective or objective is a big philosophical debate.....I believe it to be subjective. Not everything across cultures or even in the same neighborhood will be perceived the same.

People do have that opinion. That is exactly why morality is subjective.

If morality was objective,
no one would condemn the Holocaust.
No one would argue over abortion.
This thread would not exist.

That's bad logic, though. It's like saying we should ban salesmen because it sends the message that they're only worth it for buying things from.

Fine. but the second part I explained really clearly right?

Other part about them not always enjoying it with all their clients is right, yeah, but hey, no one always enjoys their jobs anyway.

And in response to the posts arguing about whether or not morality is subjective... Of course it is, or there wouldn't be people who thought prostitution was immoral while others think it's fine.

I think legalizing prostitution would help more than it would hurt for all the reasons stated above. It may help cut down on the "forbidden fruit" mentality among other things too. I also believe we'd do well to educate people more about safe sex practices (how to practice birth control) and teach people how to respect and take care of their bodies (sex ed, general anatomy lessons, and other stuff like good nutrition and exercise).

At the end of the day, I view prostitution as a job like any other. You perform a service and you get paid. Just because you're using your body shouldn't make a difference. It does bring up a few important questions though. Why are people who prostitute themselves viewed in such a negative light? What does it say about our psychology as humans? Why are we so afraid of sex as part of a business transaction?

For anyone who says it's not natural, studies suggest that male chimpanzees may exchange meat for sex. There are other examples out there with different animals, but this is the first that came to mind. Pretty interesting stuff, right?

What I find confusing is that people specifically talk about prostitution as degrading to women, ignoring the fact that not only are there male prostitutes but some women also pay them for sex. (Male prostitutes who get female clients are called gigolos.)

I suppose because in the media it's all sleazy men going to poor drug-riddled prostitutes and women going to gigolos is seen as being something naughty but still sexy?

"Legal is legal and that's not going to change"

laws change all the time. State to state and even city to city. remember las vegas has areas where prostitution is legal and not.

"its renting a body"
Ever work for target, wal mart or construction? day in and day out you are just there to move things ten time heavyer then you are your selling your body to move stuff. There is also the over used "wining and dining your girlfriend is renting her time"

" its degrading" is it more degrading then girls dressing up and acting like prostutes? Just last week I was at a star bucks and these two girls came in wearing little teddies(I think that is what they are called) was in there for five minutes and walked out with 10 free coffees(from staff AND the other guys) I had to wait till they left before the staff even rmemeberd I had an order waiting.

"religion"
Lets start off with the "separation of church and state" If all laws followed religion views then stores would be closed on sunday. some foods would be forbbien and who desides what religion the laws should follow? by the church I was going to when I was little I would have been possessed by the devil and been killed.(church was a trigger for me) and as family guy has said "Jeus hanged with prostutes"
