You guys do know that you can easily block the game apps and everything from specific people?
My cousin always sent Farmville requests everyday. I couldn't see what was happening on the Home page with my other friends, so I blocked all future Apps from her, easy really (:

I've got a comment somewhere on the second or third page of this thread that discusses how these apps are side-stepping the blocks.

I actually like Facebook. I don't get a lot of spam, although from time to time I do get spam friend requests. But I have over a hundred friends on there. One is my sister whom I've never met. We have the same father but different mothers. We started talking on there a couple of months back. If it weren't for Facebook I doubt we would have started.

I think the American Bar Association should cut facebook a check. It certainly seems good for business. I know of many cases of marriages dissolving after someone reconnected with an old flame online. I'm sure once upon a time the telephone made a similar impact.

LOL I haven't heard of that. I'm surprised you know of many.

I only forbid one person from being on my husband's Facebook friends list. There's good reason for it and there's not like there's any kind of fight about it. He's just as content to not have anything to with her, too.

My second account gets spammed of FB messages and although I don't care of that accounts fate...they should really give you the option to not get them via E-Mail....I don't want Facebook to take over my life (it doesn't by the way) by them jamming it down our throats...

I hate facebook up to an extent...it's helpful taking to Interweb friends (the ones you trust anyway), but posting pictures is dodgy on there as they never take them down perminantly and that is a violation of Privacy law.

Well, I'm not that social and only know two cases personally. But my gf is more social and knows a few more. So I hear about it.

People from the past are dangerous.

I can understand that. You'd think it'd be simple enough to just respect a partner's wish not to connect with those people but if a partner doesn't even know it's happening until it's happened. That has to suck.

All my friends are people I do business with, and people I met online. I removed all of my family and high school friends because they kept asking me questions like "I noticed you are a member of an atheist group. Are you an atheist?" "Hey, I noticed you are a member of an Autism group. You are not autistic", etc, so they are all gone.

I only add friends. I ignore people I don't know. I don't get spam. I don't even check Facebook unless somebody sends me a PM or writes on my Wall. I basically only put vacation photos on them. I like it that way.

i use my facebook to keep track of birthdays and the like; usually if something happens i 'ought to know' from small cues, it's also posted on facebook, so i indeed know.
basically, it's part of a bigger system to emulate NT

I think in cases like this I am old for my age. I just don't get it, what is the point that it is so much better than sending an email? My brother bugged me to death yrs ago until I set up a MySpace acct. I loaded pics of the kids ect and even wrote a little. Lots of stray family members found me through my brother and in the end, I don't want that again. Anyway I set all this up and he rarely even contacted me via MySpace. So now for several yrs he has been bugging me to get on facebook, so I can see pics of his kids (send them to me!) so I can see other ppl on there and what they are doing (don't want to see, don't ever want to know) and so he can message me (hello- email, texting, an actual phone call)
He doesn't like it but I won't be joining the facebook club anytime soon. More trouble than it's worth, I decided.

There are ppl from my past that were and possible are abusive that I never want to find me again. I get all the settings and everything, but that is such a hassle. I really would only be there for my brother.... and I don't see why we can't do the same things on email. I get uploading as many pics would be hard, but really only a few sent by email means a lot as they are to ME their aunt, and not just for "god and everybody" to see.

Eh, I'm not old, but I didn't grow up with these kinds of things, and as they emerged I was burried in caring for children, pregnancies, nursing, cloth diapering and home schooling. I guess I just never got into the groove. I did look on there a few times but it doesn't seem to me I am missing much.

To those who enjoy it, more power to ya!

Well, there are abusive people you can find on Facebook too, and you can see "HOW GREAT" their lives are, and "HOW GREAT" some of their causes are. Some of them are Vegans, others are Christians, atheists, freethinkers, conservatives, liberals; Facebook is full of stupid, abusive people who now walk the path of truth and greatness.

In other words, we need to remove the c and replace with a k:

Fakebook

But hey, at least I can turn my clients, customers, etc into friends.

Facebook is nothing more than a place for people to themselves feel superior to other people by showing off how many friends they have. Also, their many pics of them at parties, concerts, spring break, and all the women/men they've hooked up with.

I HATE IT

It's evil and sinful

Facebook will meet it's maker sooner or later. The site has done for me more harm than good.
