so guys, please don't write off a girl just because you see her with a cigarette in her mouth, there are many types of smokers and most of them do want to quit, all they need is a little motivation.

Don't worry, it's so unlikely that some guys here are going to meet you by accident while you are smoking a cigarette. ;).

yeah well, I don 't mean the particular guys in here but guys in general. it's funny how when you're a casual smoker (like myself) you only ever have a chance with smokers, because non-smokers are so vehemently against it that they lose all interest in you once they see you with a fag (yes, I had it happen to me several times). it really feels like being discriminated against!

If a girl smokes when she drinks it doesn't bother me at all, if she smokes constantly - pack a day or more, that could be problematic, even more for the fact that its like dating a girl who smokes weed daily - she needs to be with someone who has shared experience in that regard, otherwise its a given rift in the relationship.

I could handle dating a girl who smoked week occasionally. In fact, I'd almost prefer to date a girl who smoked weed every other weekend or so. It would take that for any girl I know or have ever known to be as laid-back as I am!

Incidentally, I've never smoked anything, weed or otherwise, and just don't care to try it. For whatever reason, though, weed smokers don't seem to be frequent chain smokers like cig smokers, who seem desperate to maintain the habit. Health effects aside, I just couldn't deal with a habitual smoker (of anything, tobacco or weed).

Thats because weed does not contain all the chemicals tobacco companies add to cigarettes to keep people hooked. You should watch "The insider" or "Thank you for smoking".

I could never date a smoker. In fact i have gone off my nut at one ex who took a drag when we were out at a party with mates. I think it is disgusting and vile and refuse to see someone romantically who would do it.

It's like kissing an ashtray.

Years ago it would have definitely been a deal breaker but the longer I stay single, the more lenient I probably will become because after a while I realize I'm not in a position where I get to be picky . I would rather that they didn't but if they smoked only a little bit or were courteous enough not to smoke around me I could put up with it if they had other good qualities. If they were a chain smoker or a pothead though then forget it.

Ive gone out with light smokers. I just felt like a kid sometimes having to stand back or hold my breath. And the kissing is different.

I wouldn't call it a deal breaker but it's a negative. THey need enough positives to make up for it.

thanks for posting that. Maybe it will help some smokers here to think differently. During my teen years, I lived in a houseful of smokers. Every winter I got bronchial infections. By the time I was 19, I got my first case of pneumonia, thanks to second hand smoke. My ex smoked too, and his whole family while I was living with him. Smoking ought to be listed in the DSM. :eew:

I have actually observed that my cigars are an excellent screening device for people in general, they tend to offend the exact people I actively wouldn't want to spend time around anyway, like a sort of smokey force-field.
Even during my non-smoking years it was never an issue for me though, it just seemed like such an irrelevancy when evaluating someone for a relationship romantic or otherwise. I'm either going to like someone or not based on their personality and other intrinsic qualities, not their personal consumer choices.

They ought to put that on a warning label, definitely more off putting than the usual blackened lungs and such.

Yes, absolutely. I can barely stand staying next to some of my friends while they smoke. What's even worse is when a whole appartmen smells like cold cigarette smoke. You enter, and bam, your cloths, your hair, everything smells like you've been ditched in a chimney. Not saying that I might change my mind, but anyone who wants to put up with me, she better not smoke while I am near, and she better not smell like smoke.
