Only if they deserve it - but I advise caution because, deserved or not, it'll likely go straight to their head. ;)

If you would feel odd calling a 25 year old male a boy, then it is the same for a female being called a girl. That's how I see it anyway. Calling a fully grown adult by a term used for a child seems demeaning to me.

mv I was called Madam the other day, and it made me shudder. I'll be too young for that until I'm 80.

Henbane! So good to see you here!

Lady or Woman would be the approperiate term.

Whenever I hear people using the term "female" especially if it's a woman, I turn and run because in my experience, it's usually undesirable people that use that term.

I'm a 38 year old NT woman. Everybody has a different preference, but I don't mind "lady" or "gal" or "woman".

For example, if you were talking to me directly, I would be glad to hear "You're a really neat lady", or "You're a cool gal.", or "you're a pretty woman".

If I'm talking about a woman my age, I usually say woman. I usually don't call females girls unless they are under 16 or so. I use the more general word "gal" or "lady".

Great question! Even as an NT, I had to think about it a little!

I don't think it's an NT vs. "other" question necessarily, SisterPhoenix.

In other words, from what I see here, it sounds like there are a lot of opinions, and a lot of it varies according to region.

Right. Next time you're speaking to someone I DARE you to say, "How are you enjoying your tea, Human?"

You know? Next time I have coffee with someone (tea? people rarely drink tea around here, is that common over there?) I'll say just that. It will be worth it just for their reaction

By their names. Just don't refer to a woman as "a female". It sounds kind of grossly scientific and impersonal. Like you're talking about maggot samples.

I dare you the next time you're speaking to a woman, to say "How much are you enjoying your tea, woman?"

:P

"Human" "man" and "woman" are words that are best used to refer to someone, not as forms of address.

Got that, Man?

Snarky! ;)
The whole point of this thread is how to properly address a woman over the age of ~20. We could keep using the tea example... if you were in that example, how would you like a server to address you? Miss? Madam? Ladies (if your friends are there?) ...or simply avoid a title of any sort entirely! "How's your tea?"

"How's your tea?" without any form of address would be fine with me.
"Ma'am" and "Miss" don't bother me, "Sir" and "Slutbitch" probably would.

Who on earth would address anyone as such anyway??? The only way I could see that happening is some gangsta'-wannabes pulling up beside you in their car and catcalling, "Hey, b***h! You look fiiiine!" *barf*

I can't imagine that any polite person would. That one was intended humorously.
