you know the saying: alpha is a man who is very succesful with women.

Except that's not what an alpha male is. You are thinking of "player". A "player" is a man who has sex with very many women (and their looks are not relevent to his being a player). An alpha male is the male (not confined to humans) who is the leader of a group. In some animal species and in some human groups, getting his choice of the females is a perk of the position. But it is a perk only. It is not what defines the alpha as alpha. It is the group leadership which defines him as alpha.

It is a reproductive strategy among some primate species, and among some human groups, for a lower ranking male (not alpha) to have sex out of the sight line of the alpha male and with as many females as he can get away with. This won't make him an alpha, but it does prevent his genes from disappearing. Human males do this sometimes too. If they are low ranking (not the leader in their group) they may be called a player but that won't make them alpha. Some alphas are also players but being a player does not make a man an alpha.

This concept is full of s**t, that's what it is full of! I know an 'Alpha Male', who as slept with quite a few women. You know what we tease him about when he is sitting right next to us?: That he has never had a girlfriend.

Some people aren't capable of sustaining a relationship though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having different partners, as long as you aren't stringing them along or hurting them.

I’d say it’s the other way round: self-harming is maladaptive in itself, so those who do it are less likely to survive and reproduce.

Depends if you look at it as a symptom of something else, or an occurrence on it's own. But for sure if you're self-harming you're less likely to survive.

If an ugly guy sleeps with 100 ugly women, I guess he'd be an alpha-beta :P

This is a matter of quality over quantity. I can be sleeping with the same women for years and be considered a alpha male. Why? Bc. every man stops what they're doing just to have a peek at her and I automatically become a alpha male in their eyes just for being with her.

Alpha beta thing in sexual relationship its just a nature thing regarding territorial and females maintenance.
We are animals also and some of that stuff are into our society and relationships. But when you think further and consider that this animality thats its in our DNA its under our reason, this kind of stuff doesn´t matter anymore.

Nope. Case in point: People with Borderline Personality Disorder both engage in self-harm and, at least in the case of women w/BPD, have lots and lots of unprotected sex.

So they can't be the same thing at all.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so you can't stereotype women and assume everyone of them are ugly. Ugly or not being with over 100 people regardless of what they are is a rare feat no matter what.

Since when was number of sexual partners the sole determinant for categorising someone as alpha or beta?

You know, the only place I ever hear talk of alpha males is either on this website or the discovery channel
